Purpose of Service: The Clinical Psychologist will provide high-quality, patient-centered psychological care to UN staff and eligible beneficiaries. This role supports mental health and well-being through assessment, intervention, education, and collaboration, ensuring a safe, ethical, and inclusive environment. The service contributes to improved patient outcomes, greater psychological resilience, and the overall effectiveness of UNHCC’s multidisciplinary approach.
Work Location: ECA, Addis Ababa
Expected Duration: 9 months
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, psychological testing, and diagnostic evaluations to identify mental health conditions and psychosocial needs
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches tailored to each patient’s needs
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling for stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment disorders, and other mental health issues
- Offer crisis intervention and support for acute psychological emergencies and collaborate with medical staff in managing high-risk cases
- Educate patients and families on mental health promotion, coping strategies, and relapse prevention
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential clinical records and prepare reports for referring clinicians and stakeholders
- Consult with other healthcare professionals and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions to optimize patient care
- Ensure adherence to professional standards, ethical guidelines, and UN policies regarding mental health care and confidentiality
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive patient management plans
Qualifications / Special Skills:
- First-level university degree qualifying the holder for registration as a licensed Clinical Psychologist
- Current, unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of a UN Member State
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible clinical experience as a Clinical Psychologist
Languages:
- Fluency in oral and written English is required
- Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage
