About the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP)
Established in 2007 under the Joint Africa-EU Strategy, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) promotes access to secure, affordable, and sustainable energy for both continents. The AEEP Secretariat, hosted by GIZ, serves as a bridge between African and European stakeholders to enhance cooperation, visibility, and implementation of major continental initiatives such as:
- Africa’s Continental Power Systems Masterplan (CMP)
- Africa Single Electricity Market (AfSEM)
- Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative (AEGEI)
The project is part of the Global Energy Transformation Programme (GET.Pro) and funded by the European Union and BMZ.
Position Overview
The Project Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the AEEP Secretariat’s smooth and efficient operation. The position involves administrative, coordination, and communication responsibilities to facilitate effective collaboration among partners, including the African Union Commission (AUC), AUDA-NEPAD, and AFREC.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination: Act as the main administrative link between Embedded Advisors and African Union institutions.
- Event Management: Plan and manage logistics for meetings, workshops, and high-level events (invitations, registration, on-site coordination).
- Donor Reporting: Support the preparation and submission of donor reports by compiling data and tracking project metrics.
- Scheduling & Travel: Organize calendars, meetings, and travel logistics for key personnel.
- Documentation: Prepare, manage, and maintain project files, correspondence, and reports.
- Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E):
- Assist in collecting and organizing project data.
- Draft M&E reports and maintain an updated database of project materials.
- Take meeting notes and prepare summaries or briefing points.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, International Relations, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in project coordination, administrative support, or programme management, ideally within an international or NGO environment.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent written and spoken English communication
- Teamwork and interpersonal skills, especially in multicultural environments
- Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher)
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with large international or governmental organizations (especially AU-related)
- Basic understanding of the energy sector
- Working knowledge of French or another African Union official language
- Familiarity with project management tools
