Program Summary:
The program aims to increase access to life-saving services for conflict-affected IDPs, returnees, and vulnerable populations. This includes the delivery of integrated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Promotion (WASH), Nutrition, Protection, Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), and agricultural support services.
Position Summary:
The Health Officer is responsible for leading and ensuring the technical quality and implementation of mobile health and nutrition services in the assigned woreda. The role involves providing medical consultation, treatment, maternal and child health services, EPI, SAM case management, and health education. The Health Officer will ensure proper documentation, manage drug supplies, and compile regular reports for submission to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure implementation of quality mobile health and nutrition services including consultation, treatment, EPI, safe motherhood, and emergency care.
Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily health and nutrition activities, including movement plans and site selection.
Manage essential drug and supply distribution to mobile and fixed health sites.
Train and supervise health extension workers and nurses, ensuring adherence to health and nutrition treatment guidelines.
Monitor morbidity and mortality trends, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
Facilitate coordination and referrals between mobile teams and local health facilities.
Participate in community health education and awareness sessions.
Provide on-site mentoring and capacity building for local health workers.
Ensure documentation of patients treated, vaccinated, and screened.
Team Management:
Provide technical guidance and supervision to mobile health team members.
Coordinate with midwives, clinical nurses, and government health staff for quality service delivery.
Facilitate formal and on-the-job training sessions for Mercy Corps and partner staff.
Influence and Representation:
Liaise with government health offices, local authorities, and health partners to ensure alignment with public health strategies.
Participate in Zonal and Regional Health and Nutrition Technical Working Group meetings.
Collaborate with other agencies such as UNICEF and WHO for coordinated health interventions.
Knowledge and Experience:
BSc in Public Health or Nursing with at least 4 years of experience in NGO settings, including 2 years in a clinical setup.
Strong skills in case management of adult and childhood illnesses, maternal health, and IMNCI/ICCM.
Experience managing SAM cases and medical complications.
Ability to lead and motivate mobile health teams effectively.
Strong computer literacy and communication skills.
Proficiency in English and the local language.
Willingness to travel to remote areas and work under pressure.
