About the Job:
Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is seeking qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Human Rights Resource Center Officer. The role is responsible for managing and strengthening the Human Rights Resource Centre, ensuring that all print, digital, and multimedia materials are well organized, accessible, and aligned with EHRC’s mission. The officer will play a key role in information and knowledge management to support research, advocacy, education, and capacity-building initiatives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop, organize, and maintain the Human Rights Resource Centre, including books, journals, training manuals, reports, and digital content.
• Catalogue and classify resources using appropriate knowledge management systems.
• Update and maintain current and diverse materials relevant to human rights education and advocacy.
• Archive EHRC publications and human rights reports for institutional memory.
• Assist staff, researchers, and partners in accessing relevant human rights resources.
• Provide reference and research support using national and international databases.
• Manage online libraries, databases, and e-resources related to human rights.
• Create thematic collections, bibliographies, and resource guides on emerging human rights topics.
• Organize orientations, workshops, and exhibitions to promote use of the Resource Centre.
• Foster partnerships with universities, civil society, and international organizations for resource exchange.
• Manage donor and partner-supported initiatives for the development of the Resource Centre.
• Represent EHRC in professional knowledge-sharing forums and networks.
• Prepare annual plans, monitor usage statistics, and track impact on programming.
• Enforce access, borrowing, and intellectual property policies.
• Identify resource gaps and recommend acquisitions.
• Participate in working groups, meetings, and committees as required.
Generic Duties:
• Prepare and monitor work plans for the Resource Centre.
• Identify and address human resource needs within the function.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and evaluations for subordinate staff.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures relevant to the function.
• Represent the Commission externally upon approval.
• Participate in internal decision-making committees and groups.
Qualifications and Experience:
• BA or MA in Library Science, Information/Knowledge Management, or Information Science.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience for BA holders or 2 years for MA holders in resource center management, documentation, or knowledge management.
• Proficiency in cataloguing and library/resource management systems.
• Strong skills in research, information retrieval, and digital resource management.
• Excellent communication and analytical abilities.
• Computer literacy and ability to engage collaboratively across teams.
• Fluency in Amharic required; knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
