About the Role
The British Embassy in Addis Ababa is seeking an experienced, creative, and motivated Senior Communications Officer (SEO) to lead its communications team. The successful candidate will manage media relations, develop content strategies, and communicate the work and priorities of the UK in Ethiopia through compelling multimedia storytelling.
You’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most important diplomatic missions in Africa — supporting high-profile visits, producing digital campaigns, and strengthening the UK’s image across Ethiopia.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement the Embassy’s communications strategy.
- Manage and mentor two junior Communications Officers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Ethiopian media outlets and journalists.
- Create, edit, and publish engaging social media and digital content (photos, videos, graphics, blogs).
- Provide photo/video coverage for events and visits; manage multimedia archives.
- Develop targeted communication campaigns and digital content plans.
- Advise Embassy teams on effective media engagement strategies.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Excellent written and spoken English and Amharic.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, media, or public relations.
- Proven skills in videography, photography, and video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro).
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva).
- Strong understanding of social media trends and strategy.
- Experience writing and producing engaging online content.
- Leadership or staff-management experience.
Desirable
- Experience working with senior stakeholders or in an international/multicultural environment.
- Knowledge of other Ethiopian languages is an advantage.
