About the Organization
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) stands as one of the most enduring and respected humanitarian organizations in East Africa. Founded on July 8, 1935, the society has dedicated nearly a century to preventing and alleviating human suffering, protecting life and health, and ensuring deep respect for all human beings. Operating as an auxiliary to the government, ERCS bridges the gap between state-led initiatives and localized community needs, offering critical relief and long-term sustainable development programs across the nation.
Driven by its foundational mission, the ERCS Oromia Regional Branch works tirelessly to implement impactful interventions in some of the most challenging environments. The organization guides its operations through the seven fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality. These core values ensure that help is delivered purely based on need, completely free from political, racial, religious, or ideological bias.
Over the decades, the society has made massive contributions to both community resilience and emergency response infrastructure. Through strategic partnerships with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and numerous Partner National Societies (PNS), ERCS brings global humanitarian standards directly to localized field operations. Their work spans disaster risk reduction, clean water infrastructure, primary healthcare systems, and extensive community capacity building.
The internal culture at ERCS is built on teamwork, mutual respect, and a profound commitment to voluntary service. Employees and volunteers work side-by-side in an inclusive, supportive ecosystem that values open communication, technical innovation, and collaborative problem-solving. The organization places a massive emphasis on creating a welcoming and accessible workplace environment where diverse perspectives are leveraged to design smarter, highly sustainable community programs.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society is an equal opportunity employer that firmly believes a diverse workforce is essential to maximizing humanitarian impact. We are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive workspace and explicitly encourage women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these vacancies. By joining our team, you become part of a global legacy dedicated to equity, social justice, and the systematic empowerment of vulnerable populations.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The implementation of the EC2R project and its associated multi-sectoral components represents a major strategic milestone for the Ethiopian Red Cross Society. These newly vacant roles are vital to transforming international donor resources, specifically from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), into long-term infrastructure and life-saving community systems. By stepping into these positions, selected professionals will directly influence the health, resilience, and structural development of targeted regional districts.
The WASH Officer plays a pivotal strategic role in eradicating preventable water-borne illnesses and establishing sustainable sanitation systems. A typical day involves managing engineering designs, checking technical blueprints for water schemes, and leading community-level training sessions. This position bridges complex hydraulic engineering with active grassroots participation, ensuring that remote villages gain reliable access to safe water points, resilient institutional latrines, and powerful hygiene awareness campaigns.
The Project Accountant serves as the ultimate anchor for financial integrity, transparency, and strict compliance with global donor standards. This role manages budget utilization, verifies complex transaction ledgers, coordinates with internal and external auditors, and builds comprehensive monthly expenditure reviews. By maintaining pristine financial records and avoiding outstanding balances, the accountant protects the organization's stellar reputation and directly ensures a continuous flow of vital donor funding.
The Field Officer for Health and Wash functions as a comprehensive program manager who drives integrated healthcare and hygiene strategies directly at the field level. Daily operations include training rural health managers, orchestrating vaccine outreach programs for zero-dose children, and supervising the construction of gender-segregated, disability-friendly facilities. This role ensures that emergency ambulance networks, mental health support, and epidemic control protocols are executed seamlessly within the set timeline.
Working with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society opens up extraordinary pathways for long-term professional development and career advancement. Employees gain hands-on experience navigating high-value international grants, collaborating with diverse global stakeholders, and mastering cutting-edge project management tools. The organization heavily prioritizes internal talent for leadership pathways, offering the robust field experience and technical training required to build a highly competitive profile in the global humanitarian sector.
