About the Organization

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is one of the oldest and most respected humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia, established in 1935. For nearly a century, ERCS has been at the forefront of providing life-saving services to communities impacted by both natural and man-made disasters. From emergency ambulance responses and first aid to family reunification and the provision of essential medicines, the Society serves as a beacon of hope and resilience for millions across the nation.

Our mission extends far beyond immediate relief. ERCS is deeply invested in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and livelihood diversification. By working at the grassroots level through an extensive network of regional offices, zonal branches, and district committees, we ensure that our interventions are community-led and sustainable. We believe in building resilient households capable of withstanding the challenges of an ever-changing environment.

Operating in partnership with the Ethiopian Government and international bodies like the IFRC and ICRC, ERCS maintains a global standard of humanitarian excellence. This collaborative ecosystem allows our staff to engage with diverse perspectives and contribute to large-scale, impactful projects. We take pride in our heritage while continuously modernizing our operations to meet the evolving needs of the Ethiopian people.

The culture at ERCS is defined by our seven fundamental principles: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality. We offer a workspace where professional dedication meets a profound sense of purpose. Employees are encouraged to grow within the organization, gaining unique insights into humanitarian supply chains and large-scale logistics management.

ERCS is an equal-opportunity employer that champions diversity and inclusion as core strengths. We believe that a workforce reflecting the diversity of the communities we serve leads to more effective humanitarian outcomes. We strongly encourage women and members of underrepresented groups to apply, as we are committed to fostering an environment where all individuals can thrive and contribute to our humanitarian legacy.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Office Assistant/Administration Assistant is a pivotal role within the Humanitarian Supply Chain Department. This department is the engine of the Society, ensuring that food, medicine, and emergency supplies reach disaster-affected areas without delay. By providing high-level administrative support to the Department Director, you ensure that the complex machinery of the supply chain remains organized, efficient, and responsive.

This role is far more than traditional clerical work; it is about strategic coordination. You will serve as the primary liaison between the Director and various stakeholders, ensuring that communication flows seamlessly. Your ability to manage schedules, track weekly performance plans for procurement and warehousing, and follow up on work instructions directly impacts the speed at which the Society can respond to national emergencies.

A typical day in this role involves high-stakes multitasking—from transcribing critical audiovisual materials to coordinating workspaces that enhance team productivity. You will be the "bridge" that connects different divisions, fostering a spirit of integration and shared purpose. Your attention to detail in documentation and reporting provides the Director with the clarity needed to make life-saving decisions.

For a motivated professional, this position offers an exceptional gateway into the world of humanitarian logistics and management. You will gain first-hand experience in how a major international organization handles procurement, transportation, and warehousing on a national scale. This exposure provides a solid foundation for long-term career advancement within the humanitarian and administrative sectors.

The strategic impact of the Office Assistant is felt in the reliability of our operations. When the supply chain is well-coordinated, our response teams on the ground have the resources they need exactly when they need them. By maintaining a clean, well-furnished, and professionally managed office environment, you uphold the professional standards of the ERCS and contribute to the overall morale and effectiveness of the humanitarian team.
