Job Description
The Senior Accountant – Business Process Solutions will be responsible for overseeing and managing key accounting, payroll, and financial reporting activities for clients. The role ensures compliance with Ethiopian financial regulations, maintains accurate financial records, and provides actionable advice to clients. This position allows for direct engagement with clients, strengthening advisory and client management skills.

The role provides significant exposure to business process outsourcing operations and complex financial systems. It is an opportunity to lead project teams, mentor junior staff, and influence improvements in accounting processes. The Senior Accountant will act as a key contributor to client success and business transformation initiatives.

This role requires someone with a proactive approach, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. It is ideal for candidates looking to develop expertise in accounting consultancy while also gaining leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review coding and posting of accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and verify financial records
  • Advise clients’ management on necessary actions for resolving accounting issues
  • Develop and oversee clients’ payroll timelines, review payroll data, and process salaries and payslips through bank instructions
  • Prepare monthly tax declarations, including VAT, WHT, PF, and IT, and ensure timely settlement with relevant authorities
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including statutory reports, as required by clients
  • Maintain and archive client accounting, payroll, tax, and other records systematically
  • Support clients in conducting year-end inventory counts and fixed asset valuations, and reconcile discrepancies
  • Facilitate and assist in audits of client accounts, working closely with auditors and internal teams
  • Respond promptly to client correspondence, ensuring professional and timely communication
  • Share service fee notes and follow up to ensure timely client payments
  • Ensure compliance with Ethiopian federal, state, and local financial regulations and advise clients on necessary actions
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and networking
  • Collaborate with managers and BPS partners on strategic assignments and client projects
  • Lead and deliver outputs for complex client engagements, ensuring quality and timeliness
  • Supervise junior team members, review their work, and provide mentorship and guidance
  • Promote teamwork, knowledge sharing, and professional development within the department
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and financial management practices
  • Represent Grant Thornton professionally in client interactions and stakeholder engagements
  • Support initiatives that enhance business performance, client satisfaction, and organizational growth

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance is required
  • Advanced degrees or professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, CMA) are an added advantage

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance
  • At least 2 years in a senior or supervisory position
  • Experience in Business Process Solutions, outsourcing, accounting consultancy, or private companies is highly preferred

  • Strong understanding of accounting cycles and Ethiopian tax laws
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
