About the Organization

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian leader dedicated to helping people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC provides vital support to those forced to flee from war and disaster, as well as the host communities that sustain them. In Ethiopia, the IRC has been a steadfast partner since 1999, initially responding to severe drought in the Somali region and expanding its reach to ten regions today.

Our mission is to restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions of people uprooted by crisis. We implement multi-sectoral emergency and development programs covering health, nutrition, water and sanitation (WASH), economic recovery, and education. By working at the intersection of emergency response and long-term development, the IRC leads the way from harm to home, ensuring that vulnerable populations can regain control of their future.

A cornerstone of our organizational identity is a deep commitment to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. We recognize that humanitarian crises often disproportionately affect women and minority groups, and we strive to narrow the gender gap in both our programs and our internal operations. Our goal is to ensure that all clients have equal access to services and that our workplace reflects the diversity of the people we serve.

The IRC maintains a rigorous safeguarding culture. We are determined to protect our staff and clients from any form of misconduct or exploitation. This commitment to professional standards—integrity, service, and accountability—defines our daily operations. We foster an environment of continuous learning and critical reflection to ensure our services are delivered with the highest possible ethical standards.

We are an equal opportunity employer that values merit and professional excellence. The International Rescue Committee explicitly encourages women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these roster positions. We believe that a diverse team is a more capable team, better equipped to deliver the innovative and empathetic solutions required in the field.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

These positions are part of an Emergency Roster recruitment. Successful candidates will be pre-qualified and ready to deploy as soon as an emergency response is triggered. These roles are the backbone of the IRC’s ability to scale up rapidly and effectively when disaster strikes, ensuring that our response is immediate and professionally managed across various field offices and woredas.

The Health and Health Promotion Managers are strategically vital for reducing mortality and morbidity in crisis-affected areas. By providing high-quality clinical oversight and community-based health education, these roles ensure that displaced populations are empowered and protected. Meanwhile, the Supply Chain Manager ensures the integrity of logistics, procurement, and fleet management, which are the lifeblood of any humanitarian operation.

The MHNT (Mobile Health and Nutrition Team) Leaders play a frontline role, leading teams directly into host communities and IDP sites. Their impact is felt through daily medical consultations and nutrition service packages that save lives in real-time. Together, these four roles form a multidisciplinary shield that protects vulnerable Ethiopians during the most challenging times of their lives.

Career development is a cornerstone of the IRC experience. We provide our staff with opportunities to handle complex grants, engage with global ERP systems like Integra, and lead strategic initiatives in a cross-functional environment. We view every roster member as a long-term investment and offer a pathway for growth where hard work and merit are recognized with increased leadership responsibilities.

A day in the life at the IRC involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—Nutrition, WASH, Finance, and Protection—to solve real-world challenges. Whether you are managing a multimillion-dollar supply chain, conducting a rapid health assessment, or empowering a local health office, your contribution is valued. You will work in a fast-paced environment that values efficiency, accuracy, and a proactive approach to business.

We pride ourselves on being a stable employer that values the commitment of our humanitarian staff.

Compensation at the International Rescue Committee is designed to be competitive and reflects the high level of expertise required for emergency response. We have streamlined our application process to be as efficient as possible. Following the application deadline, our recruitment team will conduct a thorough review of all submissions. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for assessments to determine their fit for the roster. We aim to move through this process efficiently to ensure we have a robust team ready for any emerging humanitarian needs in Ethiopia.
