NRC is currently seeking a qualified and motivated candidate to join its team as a Livelihood and Food Security Social Support Assistant in Shire, Ethiopia.

Job Description

The Livelihood and Food Security Social Support Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of livelihood and food security activities within NRC projects.

The position focuses on assisting communities affected by displacement by supporting programs that improve income generation and food security.

The successful candidate will help coordinate project activities, assist with beneficiary identification, and support community engagement processes.

The role involves working closely with internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities to ensure that humanitarian assistance is delivered fairly and effectively.

The Social Support Assistant will assist in community mobilization activities and help ensure that project beneficiaries are selected through transparent and accountable processes.

The position also involves working with self-help groups and supporting income-generating activities that strengthen community resilience.

The successful candidate will help maintain project records and ensure that project documentation is organized and properly filed.

The role requires close collaboration with NRC field teams and local authorities to ensure effective implementation of project activities.

Regular reporting and documentation of field activities will also be required to support project monitoring and evaluation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Participate in beneficiary selection, verification, and registration processes
• Coordinate with community leaders and local authorities
• Conduct household visits to verify vulnerable beneficiaries
• Lead community mobilization and information dissemination activities
• Support the implementation of livelihood and food security project activities
• Follow up with self-help groups and support income-generating initiatives
• Establish complaint and feedback mechanisms for project participants
• Collect and document project data for monitoring and reporting purposes
• Prepare organized reports for the Livelihood and Food Security Project Coordinator
• Ensure equal participation of internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities
• Support cash distribution activities and related project operations
• Perform additional tasks assigned by the line manager

Required Skills and Competencies

Minimum of 1 year in livelihood and food security, multi-purpose cash assistance, community mobilization activities in humanitarian/recovery context.

Applicants must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with communities and project stakeholders.

The role requires individuals who are committed to humanitarian values and capable of supporting vulnerable communities with respect and professionalism.

Candidates must also have the ability to work independently and collaboratively within field teams.
