The organization is currently seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join its team as a WASH Social Support Assistant in Shire, Ethiopia.
Job Description
The WASH Social Support Assistant will support the implementation of water, sanitation, and shelter related project activities at the community level.
The position focuses on working closely with affected communities to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches the most vulnerable populations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in community mobilization, beneficiary registration, and monitoring field activities.
The role also involves coordinating with community leaders, local authorities, and project participants to ensure transparency and accountability during project implementation.
The Social Support Assistant will act as a link between NRC and the local community to help ensure that project activities are implemented effectively.
The position requires regular communication with internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities to understand their needs and provide accurate information about project activities.
The successful candidate will help ensure that assistance programs follow NRC guidelines and that community members are treated with fairness and respect.
The role also includes supporting field teams during distributions, data collection activities, and monitoring of project progress.
The WASH Social Support Assistant will help establish complaint and feedback mechanisms that allow community members to raise concerns or suggestions regarding project activities.
The position contributes to ensuring that humanitarian programs are implemented with transparency, accountability, and strong community participation.
Key responsibilities include:
• Serve as a primary point of contact between NRC and project beneficiaries
• Participate in the selection, verification, and registration of beneficiaries
• Coordinate with community leaders and local authorities
• Conduct household visits to verify vulnerable beneficiaries
• Support community mobilization and awareness activities
• Establish complaint and feedback mechanisms for project participants
• Assist with distribution activities such as non-food items (NFI) and cash support programs
• Collect field data and maintain accurate documentation
• Prepare organized field reports for the WASH and Shelter Coordinator
• Ensure equal participation of women, men, youth, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities
• Work closely with NRC staff to implement WASH and shelter program activities
• Support additional project activities when required by supervisors
Required Skills and Competencies:
Degree in Hydraulics engineering, water engineering, construction /civil engineering or any relevant field .
Applicants should demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with communities and project stakeholders.
The role requires individuals who are committed to humanitarian values and who can support vulnerable communities with respect and professionalism.
Candidates must have the ability to work in field environments and collaborate with different teams and partners.
Minimum of 1 year experience in humanitarian organizations preferably working at field like community mobilizer, social support staff and related. WASH, shelter experience is a plus.

Job Location
The position is based in Shire, Ethiopia.
