Job Description
The Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial management of the pharmacy program and ensuring compliance with internal financial procedures. The position involves maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring transactions, and contributing to financial planning and reporting.
The role also requires close coordination with management, auditors, and operational teams to ensure transparency and accountability in financial processes. By maintaining strong financial systems, the Accountant helps ensure the sustainability and efficiency of the organization’s programs.
The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of financial reports, monitor program expenditures, and support decision-making by providing accurate financial information.
Key responsibilities include:
• Compiling financial input data and participating in the formulation of internal control policies and procedures related to finance and administration.
• Recording financial transactions through journalizing, posting, cross-referencing, adjusting entries, and closing accounts to maintain accurate accounting records.
• Verifying journal entries and ensuring that all financial transactions correspond with appropriate source documents.
• Conducting inventory control activities and participating in regular stocktaking exercises within the pharmacy program.
• Testing account balances to identify clerical errors such as omissions, transpositions, or overstatements to maintain reliable accounting records.
• Maintaining journal voucher registers and ensuring proper referencing of financial documents to ledger account codes.
• Preparing monthly trial balances and reviewing ledger balances to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Reconciling bank statements with the organization’s accounting records and identifying any discrepancies.
• Processing payroll transactions, verifying payroll data, and ensuring the proper settlement of salary advances.
• Monitoring tax and insurance payments to ensure they are processed on time and verifying the accuracy of insurance claims.
• Reviewing and summarizing petty cash records and verifying the correctness of petty cash vouchers and account coding.
• Compiling payroll input data and assisting with the preparation and processing of payroll for program employees.
• Entering accounting data into computerized accounting systems and generating financial reports.
• Supporting external auditors by providing necessary financial documents and explanations during audit processes.
• Following up on budget requisitions, consolidation, and implementation to ensure alignment with financial regulations and program plans.
• Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasting future cash flow requirements for the pharmacy unit.
• Reviewing periodic financial statements including income statements and balance sheets to support management decisions.
• Ensuring that physical inventory counts match accounting records and investigating discrepancies when necessary.
• Maintaining purchase registers for both local and foreign purchases and ensuring accurate documentation.
• Preparing worksheets and supporting documents used in the preparation of financial statements.
• Assisting in the preparation of periodic financial reports and end-of-period financial statements.
• Implementing audit recommendations to improve accounting practices and financial controls.
• Providing technical support and guidance on accounting matters to relevant ERCS outlets within Addis Ababa.

Educational Qualification
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Accounting and Finance from a recognized university or higher education institution.

Candidates who possess additional certifications or professional development training in accounting or financial management may also have a competitive advantage.
Work Experience
Applicants should have at least two years of relevant work experience in accounting, finance, or related financial management roles.
Experience working in nonprofit organizations, pharmacies, healthcare institutions, or humanitarian programs is beneficial but not mandatory.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage financial records, maintain accounting documentation, and prepare financial reports with accuracy.
