It was established in 1935 and has served communities for decades by responding to emergencies, supporting vulnerable populations, and promoting humanitarian values across the country.

The organization plays a vital role in delivering emergency assistance and essential services to communities affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and other crises. Through its humanitarian work, ERCS contributes to saving lives, reducing suffering, and strengthening community resilience.

ERCS operates through a wide network that includes regional, zonal, and woreda branches, as well as thousands of community-based Red Cross committees. This extensive structure allows the organization to reach people in both urban and remote areas of Ethiopia.

The society works in close partnership with the Ethiopian Government, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and other international partners. These collaborations strengthen the organization’s ability to deliver humanitarian support effectively.

ERCS also implements long-term development programs aimed at improving food security, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. These initiatives help communities build stronger systems that reduce vulnerability and increase self-reliance.

Job Description
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society is seeking qualified and responsible candidates for the position of Trailer Truck Driver. The selected candidate will support the organization’s freight transport services by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of goods, materials, and humanitarian relief items.

This position is part of the ERCS Freight Transport Service Income Generating Activity (IGA) Unit. The role contributes directly to the logistical operations that support humanitarian programs across Ethiopia.

The Trailer Truck Driver will operate heavy trucks and trailer vehicles while ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, organizational policies, and safety standards.

Maintaining the truck in good condition is a critical aspect of the role. Drivers are expected to perform minor maintenance tasks and report technical problems that require specialized repair.

The driver will keep detailed logbooks documenting mileage, fuel consumption, departure and arrival times, and other operational information in accordance with ERCS internal policies.

In addition, the driver may assist with loading and unloading goods when necessary and help ensure that materials reach their destination safely and efficiently.

The role requires strong attention to safety procedures and the ability to respond quickly in case of vehicle malfunction or road incidents. Any accident or operational issue must be reported immediately to supervisors.
