About the Organization
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organization that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. For over 85 years, the organization has rallied “determined optimists” to transform the lives of children in more than 80 countries. Plan International believes in the power and potential of every child but knows this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion, and discrimination—and it is girls who are most affected.
Working together with children, young people, supporters, and partners, Plan International strives for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. The organization supports children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood and enables children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national, and global levels using our reach, experience, and knowledge.
Equality, diversity, and inclusion are at the very heart of everything Plan International stands for. We want our organization to reflect the diversity of the communities we work with, offering equal opportunities to everyone regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. We foster an organizational culture that embraces racial justice and inclusion.
Plan International is a child-focused organization committed to safeguarding. We believe that in a world where children face so many threats of harm, it is our duty to ensure that we, as an organization, do everything we can to keep children safe. This means that we have particular responsibilities to children that we come into contact with and we must not contribute in any way to harming or placing children at risk.
Plan International Ethiopia strongly encourages women and underrepresented groups to apply. We are dedicated to creating a workplace environment that ensures every team is rich in diverse people, thoughts, and ideas. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Please note that scanned certificates or attachments are not required at the application stage.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Nutrition Assistant/Measurer plays a critical role in the implementation of the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP) for treating Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM). This position directly targets children aged 6-59 months and pregnant/lactating women (PLW) across the Wadera and Birbirsa Kojowa woredas. By supporting the TSFP Nurse, you ensure that life-saving nutritional support reaches the most vulnerable members of the community.
Your impact is measured through the successful delivery of the WFP-TSFP project, specifically through community MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) screening and beneficiary registration. You will be responsible for issuing ration cards, verifying entitlements, and providing bi-weekly distribution support. This hands-on role is essential for reducing malnutrition rates and improving the health outcomes of thousands of children and mothers in the Oromia region.
This role offers significant professional growth opportunities within the humanitarian sector. You will gain extensive experience in clinical management, data collection for the HMIS, and the practical application of FMOH IMAM protocols. By conducting defaulter tracing via home visits and facilitating immediate SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) referrals, you become a vital link in the chain of emergency nutrition care.
Strategically, the Nutrition Assistant/Measurer ensures that the program meets global standards. Your work contributes to achieving recovery rates greater than 75% and keeping death rates below 3%. This position allows you to work at the forefront of nutrition science in a field setting, developing the skills necessary for a long-term career in international development and public health.
The presence of a dedicated Nutrition Assistant ensures that distributions are efficient and that every beneficiary receives their correct entitlement. By working closely with Health Extension Workers and local partners, you help build a sustainable framework for nutrition that will benefit the West Guji and Guji Zones for years to come.
