Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Programme Coordinator (Joint Labour Migration Programme – JLMP) position represents a highly strategic leadership opportunity within one of Africa's most significant labour migration initiatives. The successful candidate will play a central role in coordinating continental efforts aimed at improving labour migration governance and supporting sustainable development across Africa.The position contributes directly to the implementation of the Joint Labour Migration Programme (JLMP), a collaborative initiative involving the African Union Commission (AUC), IOM, International Labour Organization (ILO), German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), and other development partners. The programme supports the implementation of key African Union priorities related to employment, labour mobility, social protection, and regional integration.In this role, the Programme Coordinator will guide policy implementation, facilitate collaboration among multiple stakeholders, and strengthen labour migration governance systems across African Union Member States. The position requires high-level engagement with governments, regional economic communities, international organizations, social partners, and development agencies.A typical day may involve coordinating strategic meetings, supervising programme implementation, reviewing policy frameworks, advising decision-makers, supporting capacity-building initiatives, preparing technical reports, and representing the programme in regional and continental forums.The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative policy initiatives that influence millions of workers and families across Africa. Programme Coordinator (Joint Labour Migration Programme (JLMP) (African Union))Educational Qualification: Master's Degree in Labour Economics, Law, Management, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited institution with seven years of relevant professional experience; OR Bachelor's Degree in the above fields with nine years of relevant professional experience.Work Experience: Proven experience in labour migration, employment and social protection policies at continental level; experience working with the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), IOM, ILO, ECA, EU member states, GCC institutions, and labour market information systems; strong experience in programme coordination, monitoring and evaluation, and policy implementation.Job Location: Addis Ababa, EthiopiaSalary: Per ScaleNo. Required: 1The selected professional will oversee the implementation of the Joint Labour Migration Programme and coordinate collaboration among the African Union Commission, IOM, ILO, GIZ, and other stakeholders.The position requires strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise in labour migration governance, policy advisory experience, stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to manage complex regional programmes.Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, report-writing capabilities, strategic planning expertise, and demonstrated experience working in multicultural and international environments.Fluency in English and French is mandatory.
