About the Organization

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Switzerland, also known as Doctors Without Borders, is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. The organization operates based on the values of neutrality, impartiality, and respect, providing a safe and respectful environment for all staff and partners regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation. MSF OCG is committed to an inclusive culture that encourages diverse voices and welcomes applications from individuals of all genders, ages, sexual orientations, and backgrounds.

The workplace at MSF is built on the principles of tolerance, diversity, and inclusion to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved in its life-saving actions. By joining MSF, employees contribute to a high-standard medical mission that prioritizes quality care in low-resource and often complex conflict settings. The organization emphasizes the importance of understanding MSF principles and ensuring that all actions align with universal health standards.

MSF Switzerland offers a professional atmosphere where staff development and clinical excellence are prioritized. The institution fosters a collaborative spirit, where nursing, medical, and administrative teams work in tandem to respond to emergency needs and population movements. Every member of the MSF team is a vital link in the chain of humanitarian assistance provided to the most vulnerable populations.

We explicitly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for our open positions. MSF is dedicated to maintaining a safe organizational culture and ensuring that recruitment is based on merit, validation of application, and the selection of the most suitable candidates. Joining our team in Nekemte offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on community health and emergency response in Ethiopia.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Nursing Team Supervisor holds a critical strategic role in planning, organizing, and evaluating nursing activities to warrant the quality and continuity of healthcare within MSF projects. Based in Nekemte, this role is essential for the development and implementation of the plan of action according to MSF policies and universal health standards. The supervisor ensures that all nursing staff are qualified and that health services reach those in remote or insecure areas through mobile clinics and outreach sites.

This position is vital for the correct implementation of mobile clinic protocols, including malaria testing and treatment, pneumonia management, and malnutrition referrals. By supervising triage, EPI, and MUAC screening, the Nursing Team Supervisor directly contributes to the early identification and stabilization of complicated cases. The strategic impact of this role extends to outbreak response readiness for diseases such as malaria, measles, and cholera, ensuring safe patient flow and effective infection prevention and control (IPC).

A "day-in-the-life" in this role involves coordinating team schedules, providing on-the-job coaching, and supervising decentralized pharmacy management to ensure drug availability. The supervisor also manages data collection and reporting to provide reliable information for decision-making by the Project Medical Referent. This role requires a balance of clinical expertise—performing as a nurse or anesthetist when needed—and administrative leadership to manage human resources and logistics under pressure.

Professional growth in this position is supported by the opportunity to manage large-scale nursing activities and adapt healthcare delivery to access constraints and population movements. Supervisors are tasked with identifying training needs and evaluating the performance of their team to maintain high standards of quality. This role provides a prestigious platform for healthcare professionals to lead in humanitarian settings and improve community linkage for continuity of care.

The impact of the Nursing Team Supervisor is measured by the successful stabilization and referral of patients and the effective management of outbreaks in low-resource environments. By supporting sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and ensuring high-quality outpatient department (OPD) care, the supervisor helps build a resilient health system for vulnerable groups. Joining MSF in this capacity means becoming a frontline leader in medical humanitarianism.
