Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Pharmacy Supervisor holds a critical strategic position in maintaining the integrity of the medical supply chain. Based in Nekemte, this role ensures that essential medicines and medical kits are continuously available for mobile clinics and outreach activities. By supervising storage and stock management, the supervisor ensures that life-saving drugs are kept under appropriate conditions.

This role is vital for adapting the supply chain to remote and insecure environments, where timely pre-positioning of drugs is essential. The supervisor monitors consumption trends for priority diseases such as malaria, malnutrition, and pneumonia to adjust forecasts accurately. Their work directly impacts the therapeutic progression of patients by ensuring rational drug use and antimicrobial stewardship.

A "day-in-the-life" involves managing decentralized stocks for mobile teams, tracking consumption, and maintaining cold chain integrity for vaccines. The supervisor coordinates closely with logistics and medical teams to align supply with population needs. This position demands high accuracy in reporting and data quality to support informed decision-making during health emergencies.

Professional growth in this role is fostered through the supervision and training of pharmacy staff and nursing personnel. The supervisor assists in educating teams on drug side effects and dispensing protocols. Working with MSF provides exposure to international pharmaceutical standards and emergency preparedness strategies.

The impact of the Pharmacy Supervisor is felt from the pharmacy shelves to the frontline of medical care. By maintaining buffer stocks for mass casualty incidents and outbreaks, the supervisor ensures the organization's readiness to respond to any crisis. Joining this team means ensuring that no patient goes without the medicine they need, regardless of their location.
