Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Regional Advisor for Bioslurry and Biogas is a cornerstone of the Horti-LIFE GREEN GROWTH project, which focuses on integrating Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) into Ethiopia’s horticultural value chains. This role is strategically vital as it addresses critical agricultural bottlenecks, including rising fertilizer costs and soil degradation. By promoting the use of biodigesters and the application of nutrient-rich bioslurry, you will help smallholder farmers transition toward more circular and sustainable farming systems that improve productivity and climate resilience.

On a day-to-day basis, your work involves transforming technical energy solutions into practical agricultural benefits. You will oversee the roll-out of bioslurry crop management practices, ensuring that farmers understand how to utilize these organic byproducts to enhance crop yields and soil health. Your leadership ensures that renewable energy is not just a concept but a tangible tool for economic growth, helping farmers reduce their reliance on expensive chemical inputs while contributing to a greener Ethiopia.

Career development at SNV is built into the fabric of our project implementation. As a Regional Advisor, you will serve as a high-level technical expert, providing coaching and mentorship to zonal and cluster advisors across four major regions. This role offers the opportunity to lead market system developments, working at the intersection of renewable energy and commercial horticulture. You will be at the forefront of designing scalable business models that bridge the gap between technology providers and smallholder agribusinesses.

The impact of this role extends to institutional capacity building. You will collaborate with Bureau of Agriculture (BoA) staff and (A)-TVET institutions to ensure that biogas and bioslurry technologies are integrated into local educational and extension frameworks. By developing high-quality training materials and fostering partnerships with the private sector, you ensure the longevity and sustainability of these green technologies within the Ethiopian market.

Ultimately, you will be a driver of innovation in the PURE sector. By facilitating linkages between technology providers and financial institutions, you will help create financing mechanisms that make biodigesters accessible to more families. This position provides a unique professional platform to influence regional agricultural strategies and contribute to a global network of experts dedicated to sustainable development.
