Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Regional Advisor for Solar Water Pumps (SWP) plays a pivotal role in the Horti-LIFE GREEN GROWTH project, which is essential for the modernization of Ethiopia's horticultural value chains. This position is strategically important as it directly addresses the challenges of rising fuel costs and climate variability by promoting the Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE). By integrating solar irrigation solutions, you will help smallholder farmers achieve year-round production, improve soil health, and significantly reduce post-harvest losses, thereby enhancing food security in the region.
Your daily impact involves serving as a technical bridge between innovative technology and practical field application. You will be responsible for rolling out SWP technologies across the southern regions of Ethiopia, ensuring that solar solutions are not just delivered but are effectively adopted and maintained. This role is central to transforming traditional farming practices into climate-smart, resilient agribusinesses that can thrive despite environmental and economic volatility.
Career development at SNV is a continuous journey. As a Regional Advisor, you will have the opportunity to lead complex market system developments and influence regional agricultural policies. You will gain hands-on experience in managing diverse partnerships involving government agencies, private sector technology providers, and financial institutions. This role offers a unique platform to become a recognized expert in renewable energy applications for agriculture, supported by SNV’s global network of specialists.
Beyond technical implementation, the role focuses on human capital development. You will train, coach, and mentor zonal and cluster advisors, as well as staff from the Bureau of Agriculture (BoA). By building the capacity of (A)-TVETs, you ensure that the next generation of technicians and students are equipped to handle modern green technologies. Your work ensures that the infrastructure for solar energy remains functional and scalable long after the initial project phase.
Ultimately, your work contributes to a broader vision of green business development. By facilitating innovative financing mechanisms like pay-as-you-go (PAYG) and lease-to-own models, you are de-risking investments for smallholders and opening doors for economic empowerment. This position is not just a job; it is a leadership opportunity to drive meaningful, sustainable change in the lives of thousands of farmers and their communities.
