About the Organization

People In Need (PIN) is a distinguished non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the core values of humanism, freedom, equality, and solidarity. Established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents and activists, PIN has evolved from a small relief initiative into one of the largest professional humanitarian organizations in Central and Eastern Europe. Over the last 30 years, PIN has remained steadfast in its mission to protect human dignity, provide aid in conflict-affected regions, and support the fundamental rights expressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In Ethiopia, People In Need has been an active force for change since 2003, operating across five key regions: Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Sidama, and Tigray. The organization manages multi-sectoral projects in Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water, and Social Protection. As a member of Alliance 2015, PIN leverages a strategic network of European NGOs to maximize its impact on the ground and influence global policies through evidence-based advocacy.

The culture at People In Need is defined by a friendly, fair, and collective environment where every team member is valued. We provide a platform for professionals to thrive in an international setting, offering extensive capacity-building programs and the opportunity to learn from PIN’s diverse global operations. Our staff are more than just employees; they are representatives of our humanitarian principles, dedicated to serving needy people with professionalism and integrity.

People In Need is an equal opportunity employer that champions diversity and gender equality. We believe that an inclusive workforce is essential to solving complex humanitarian challenges. To this end, women and individuals from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply for our leadership and field positions. We are committed to providing a workspace that supports professional advancement while maintaining a fulfilling and protective environment for all.

Joining PIN means participating in a legacy of human rights and relief work. We provide our staff with the mentorship and tools needed to reach their highest potential, including access to internal e-learning platforms and annual staff retreats. Our commitment to accountability and safeguarding ensures that every project we lead—and every team member we hire—adheres to the highest ethical standards, preventing any form of harassment, exploitation, or misconduct.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Project Coordinator for the Emergency Program is a high-level leadership role responsible for the operational success of the project: ‘’To meet immediate basic needs through multi-purpose cash assistance in Ethiopia, phase 2.” This position is critical for navigating the complexities of emergency response, ensuring that aid is delivered effectively to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. You will serve as the technical engine of the field team, bridging the gap between high-level project management and ground-level execution.

The strategic impact of this role is multifaceted; you will identify new emergency operation areas through rapid assessments and prevent the duplication of aid by coordinating with other international partners. By leading needs assessments and market surveys, the Project Coordinator ensures that Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) is implemented according to global humanitarian standards. Your work in coordinating hygiene promotion and NFI distributions provides a holistic response to the immediate needs of populations in crisis.

For the professional, this role offers an intensive "day-in-the-life" experience in humanitarian management. You will be responsible for mentoring and coaching field officers, conducting situational analyses, and ensuring that all project activities correspond to PIN and donor visibility protocols. This position provides unparalleled exposure to the humanitarian cluster system, as you will represent PIN at zonal and woreda coordination meetings, influencing the broader relief strategy in the region.

The Project Coordinator also carries the strategic weight of program development and accountability. You will assist the Project Manager in compiling high-level reports, designing baseline and end-line surveys, and implementing robust data flow mechanisms. Your oversight ensures that the project remains cost-effective and budget-compliant, while strictly adhering to safeguarding measures that protect vulnerable children and adults from exploitation and abuse.

Success in this role means achieving timely and measurable results that change lives. By facilitating the rapid response of the emergency team and strengthening surveillance reports for decision-making, you contribute to a more resilient Ethiopia. This position is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to lead transformative humanitarian work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where every decision impacts human dignity and survival.
