About the Organization
Medical Teams International is a global humanitarian relief organization dedicated to providing life-saving medical care and health-related support to people in crisis. Founded on the principle of loving like Jesus by serving those in need, we respond to disasters, conflict, and poverty with a focus on both immediate relief and long-term resilience. Our work reaches millions of displaced persons, refugees, and vulnerable host communities, ensuring they have access to quality healthcare, nutrition, and sustainable livelihoods.
Our mission is to demonstrate the love of God to people affected by disaster, conflict, and poverty. In Ethiopia, Medical Teams International plays a critical role in addressing the complex needs of refugee populations and host communities. By integrating health services with food security and behavioral change interventions, we aim to build healthier, more resilient communities that can withstand the shocks of environmental and social instability.
At Medical Teams International, we foster a culture of integrity, compassion, and professional excellence. We are committed to the highest standards of accountability and safeguarding, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, sexual harassment, and abuse. Our staff are empowered to work in challenging environments, supported by a global network of professionals who share a common goal of restoration and healing.
We believe that our mission is best served by a diverse and inclusive team. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are at the heart of our recruitment and operational strategies. We recognize that our collective power is amplified when we leverage different backgrounds, beliefs, and ways of thinking to solve the world’s most complex humanitarian challenges. We strive for a workplace where every individual can reach their full potential.
We explicitly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these essential roles. Medical Teams International is dedicated to creating an environment where female professionals and those from marginalized backgrounds are supported and empowered to lead. We are committed to providing equal opportunities and fostering a safe, respectful, and harassment-free workplace for all.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Food Security Officer and SBCC Officer roles are critical to the success of our multi-sectoral interventions in Oromia. As a Food Security Officer, you will lead resilience-building activities, such as climate-smart agriculture and backyard gardening, which are essential for improving dietary diversity and household income. As an SBCC Officer, you will address the social norms and behaviors that impact nutrition and health, ensuring that life-saving services are utilized effectively.
The strategic impact of these roles is profound and long-lasting. By promoting self-reliance through income-generating activities and improving maternal and child nutrition through behavioral change, you are helping to break the cycle of malnutrition and poverty. Your work ensures that the assistance provided by Medical Teams International—and our partners like the EU and UNHCR—results in tangible, permanent improvements in community health and resilience.
Career development at Medical Teams International is a journey of both professional and personal growth. We provide our staff with exposure to international humanitarian standards (Sphere, CHS) and advanced program management methodologies. Working in fragile and refugee settings provides unique challenges that sharpen your analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, preparing you for leadership roles in the global humanitarian sector.
A day in the life of these officers involves a dynamic mix of field-level implementation, community mobilization, and strategic coordination. You will work closely with government offices, UN agencies, and community leaders to harmonize efforts and maximize impact. Whether you are conducting a barrier analysis for behavior change or overseeing a cash-for-nutrition distribution, your day will be defined by meaningful action and service.
By joining Medical Teams International, you become a catalyst for hope. Your journey here will be defined by the lives you protect and the communities you empower to become self-sufficient. We invite you to bring your technical expertise and humanitarian motivation to an organization where your work directly contributes to the survival and flourishing of thousands of people in need.
