About the Organization
Deborah Foundation is a transformative non-profit organization established in 2019, born out of a profound personal journey and a vision for a more inclusive Ethiopia. The foundation was inspired by the experiences of His Excellency Abadulla Gemeda and W/ro Rahel Welde, whose daughter Deborah was born with Down syndrome. Their journey highlighted a critical gap in the Ethiopian healthcare and education systems: the lack of localized expertise and comprehensive care for children with intellectual disabilities.
Today, the Deborah Foundation stands as a leading advocate and service provider, dedicated to improving the lives of Ethiopian youth with mental and physical disabilities. Our work is centered on three strategic pillars: Health, Education, and Policy Advocacy. We strive to ensure that families across the nation no longer have to struggle alone, providing them with the resources, medical support, and educational pathways necessary for their children to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
The culture at Deborah Foundation is one of deep empathy, faith, and professional excellence. We operate with the belief that every child, regardless of their physical or mental diagnosis, deserves the best care possible and a chance to thrive alongside their peers. Our team is composed of dedicated professionals who are passionate about social justice and health equity, working tirelessly to dismantle the obstacles that disabled children face in our society.
Working with us means joining a mission that changes lives at a fundamental level. We are committed to fostering a professional environment where innovation in care and advocacy is encouraged. As we continue to grow, we remain focused on building local expertise and creating sustainable systems of support that will serve the Ethiopian community for generations to come.
In line with our mission of empowerment and equity, the Deborah Foundation maintains a strong commitment to diverse hiring practices. We believe that an inclusive workforce strengthens our impact, and we explicitly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. For the Executive Assistant role specifically, female candidates will be given priority during the selection process as part of our commitment to gender-balanced leadership support.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The roles of Executive Assistant and Junior Physiotherapist are fundamental to the operational and clinical success of the Deborah Foundation. The Executive Assistant serves as a strategic partner to our senior leadership, acting as a trusted gatekeeper and ensuring the efficient operation of the executive office. By managing complex schedules, handling sensitive communications, and coordinating logistics, this role allows our leaders to focus on the high-level advocacy and decision-making that drives the foundation forward.
The Junior Physiotherapist, on the other hand, represents the direct, life-changing impact we have on children. This role is responsible for assessing and implementing evidence-based interventions that improve mobility, coordination, and physical function for children with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. Your work is not just clinical; it is an act of empowerment, helping children gain the physical independence they need to engage more fully with the world around them.
Both positions offer immense opportunities for professional growth and impact. For the Executive Assistant, the role provides a unique vantage point into the management of a high-profile non-profit, offering the chance to develop advanced project management and organizational skills. For the Junior Physiotherapist, the foundation offers a rich learning environment with access to multidisciplinary teams and specialized training in neurodevelopmental disorders.
The day-to-day impact of these roles is profound. Whether it is ensuring that a critical board meeting is flawlessly organized or helping a child take their first stable steps through a tailored exercise plan, your work contributes directly to our mission. We view our staff as long-term partners in our journey, providing a fast-paced yet supportive environment where initiative and proactive problem-solving are highly valued.
Ultimately, these roles are about more than just tasks; they are about building a future where every child in Ethiopia has the support they need. At Deborah Foundation, we invest in our employees' development, offering a career path filled with purpose, professional challenge, and the satisfaction of knowing that your daily efforts are making Ethiopia a more inclusive place for everyone.
