About the Organization

The Addis Ababa Bureau of Women, Children, and Social Affairs (BoWCSA) stands as a pillar of social justice and community welfare within the heart of Ethiopia. Our mission is deeply rooted in the protection and empowerment of the most vulnerable segments of society, ensuring that every woman and child has the opportunity to live a life of dignity, safety, and fulfillment. We operate as a vital government entity dedicated to implementing policies that foster social equity and provide a safety net for those in need.

Our partnership with UNICEF underscores our commitment to international standards of child protection and social services. By combining local expertise with global best practices, we strive to create a protective environment that shields children from violence, exploitation, and abuse. This collaboration allows us to reach deep into the community, providing essential services to Forcibly Displaced Persons (FDPs) and the host communities that support them, ensuring no one is left behind in our pursuit of social stability.

At BoWCSA, our vision is to see an Addis Ababa where social welfare is a reality for all. We believe that the strength of a city is measured by how it cares for its children and supports its women. Through innovative programming and dedicated advocacy, we are constantly evolving to meet the complex challenges of urbanization, migration, and economic shifts, all while keeping the core human element at the center of our operations.

Our core values are built on empathy, integrity, and professional excellence. We foster a workplace culture that encourages critical thinking and compassionate action. Every team member at BoWCSA is seen as a changemaker, contributing to a legacy of service that impacts generations. We value the diverse perspectives of our staff and believe that a multidisciplinary approach is the key to solving the multifaceted issues facing our community today.

We are deeply committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the community we serve. We believe that equal opportunity is not just a policy but a fundamental necessity for progress. We explicitly encourage women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these roles. Your unique lived experiences and professional insights are invaluable to our mission of creating a safe and equitable environment for all.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The roles of Child Protection Social Workers, Supervisors, and Interns are of paramount strategic importance to the future of our city. These positions serve as the front-line defense for children in crisis, acting as the bridge between vulnerability and safety. By joining this program, you are not just taking a job; you are stepping into a role that defines the social fabric of Addis Ababa, ensuring that the next generation grows up in a secure and supportive environment.

A typical day in these roles involves direct engagement with the community and the implementation of the National Case Management Framework. Whether you are conducting field assessments, providing psychosocial support, or managing data through the CPIMS+ system, your work has a direct, measurable impact on the well-being of children. You will be tasked with identifying risks before they escalate and creating tailored care plans that offer a path toward recovery and stability for families.

Career development is a cornerstone of our partnership with UNICEF. We provide our staff with continuous learning opportunities, including specialized training in child protection standards, leadership mentoring, and exposure to international humanitarian protocols. Working within this high-impact environment allows professionals to sharpen their skills in case management, supervision, and community mobilization, paving the way for long-term leadership roles in the social services sector.

The impact of your work extends beyond individual cases; it contributes to the strengthening of the national child protection system. By documenting success stories and identifying gaps in service delivery, our team members influence policy and program design at a regional level. Your voice and your observations on the ground become the data points that drive systemic change, making this an ideal opportunity for those who wish to see their professional efforts result in broad social transformation.

We offer a professional growth trajectory that values both field experience and administrative excellence. From the entry-level intern gaining foundational skills to the supervisor overseeing complex regional operations, every role is designed to challenge and inspire. We are looking for individuals who are driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to contribute to the well-being of their community while building a robust and rewarding career in the humanitarian and social affairs sector.
