Job Description

The Embassy is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Common Services team as a Janitor. This role is essential in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the Embassy’s facilities.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and support tasks to ensure that the Embassy environment remains organized and welcoming for staff members and visitors. The role supports daily operational needs and contributes directly to maintaining high standards of hygiene and workplace comfort.

A key aspect of this position is ensuring that all shared spaces, work areas, and facilities are maintained to professional standards. Clean, organized workspaces play a critical role in creating an efficient and productive environment for diplomatic staff and guests.

The Janitor will also provide logistical support for meetings and official events. This includes preparing meeting spaces and ensuring facilities are arranged and maintained properly before and after official functions.

This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility. By performing cleaning and maintenance duties efficiently, the employee contributes to the Embassy’s mission of providing a safe and professional environment.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:

• A Secondary or High School Diploma (or equivalent qualification) obtained from a legally recognized institution.

• An equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position effectively.

Work Experience

Applicants must have relevant professional experience in order to effectively perform the responsibilities of this role.

• A minimum of two years of recent experience working as a Janitor or in a similar cleaning and facility support role.

• Recent experience refers to work performed within the past four years.

Experience in professional environments such as offices, hotels, hospitals, schools, airports, or large commercial buildings may be considered an advantage.

Job Location

This position is based at the Embassy of Canada in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The selected candidate will work within the Embassy’s facilities and support the daily operations of the mission.

Employment Type and Salary

This is a full-time indeterminate position classified as Locally Engaged Staff under the Government of Canada’s employment framework.

The role falls under the General Services category and provides a stable and structured work environment.

The annual salary for this position is approximately 5,195 USD along with benefits in accordance with the employment conditions for locally engaged staff in Ethiopia.

The normal working schedule for this role is 37.5 hours per week. Candidates should also be willing and able to work overtime when required to support operational needs.

Employees in this role may be required to wear a uniform during working hours and must follow all workplace safety guidelines.
