The Embassy of Canada to Ethiopia is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to fill the position of Political-Economic Officer with a focus on Sudan. Job Description
The Political-Economic Officer will provide research, information, and analysis related to political and economic developments in Sudan. The role involves monitoring trends, preparing reports, and advising the Embassy’s leadership on policy issues and strategic opportunities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of foreign policy recommendations and support the planning and implementation of diplomacy and advocacy initiatives. These initiatives may include cultural diplomacy activities, policy discussions, and collaborative projects with local and international partners.

The officer will prepare a wide range of documents such as briefing notes, policy reports, presentations, and communication materials. These documents help inform decision-making processes and support Canada’s diplomatic engagement in the region.

The position also requires organizing and supporting official visits, meetings, and events. This includes coordinating logistics, preparing background information, and assisting with the development of agendas and reports.

Another key responsibility is building and maintaining strong networks with stakeholders such as government officials, NGOs, think tanks, academics, international organizations, and policy experts. These relationships help ensure that the Embassy remains informed about political developments and emerging issues in the region.

The Political-Economic Officer will also contribute to communication strategies that promote Canada’s interests. This may involve assisting with social media activities, drafting public communication materials, and participating in policy discussions within relevant forums.

Educational Qualification
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a field related to the responsibilities of the position.

Relevant fields of study may include Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Business Administration, or Public Policy.

Candidates who hold a degree in another field may still qualify if they have additional training or relevant work experience related to political affairs.

Work Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of cumulative work experience in a relevant environment.

This experience may have been gained in diplomatic missions, government institutions, international organizations, academic institutions, think tanks, civil society organizations, the private sector, or media organizations.

Applicants must also have at least two years of recent experience producing political analysis or providing policy recommendations.

This experience should include conducting research and preparing documents such as reports, presentations, briefing notes, and analytical papers.

Experience related to political developments in Sudan or the broader region will be considered a strong advantage.

Employment Type and Salary
This is a full-time indeterminate position under the Locally Engaged Staff (LES) employment framework.

The position offers a salary of 23,520 USD per year.

The standard working schedule is 37.5 hours per week in accordance with locally engaged staff regulations.

Employees may occasionally be required to work overtime or travel domestically or internationally when necessary.
