Job Description
The Project Coordinator – WASH and Shelter Project provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for the planning, coordination, and implementation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Emergency Shelter construction, and Non-Food Item (NFI) interventions in Gambella.
The role ensures effective program design, contextual adaptation, and day-to-day management of project activities.
The coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all interventions meet recognized humanitarian standards, including Sphere, UNHCR, UNICEF, and relevant national guidelines.
The position ensures compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies while maintaining high-quality implementation standards.
The coordinator ensures that assistance is targeted toward the most vulnerable populations and delivered in a timely, accountable, and impactful manner.
Key responsibilities include planning, implementing, and monitoring WASH, Shelter, and NFI activities according to approved objectives and standards.
The role involves providing technical guidance on WASH infrastructure, emergency shelter construction, and NFI distribution processes.
The coordinator maintains robust monitoring and reporting systems, tracks key performance indicators (KPIs), and reports progress to management.
The position requires active coordination with government authorities, clusters, NGOs, partners, and other stakeholders.
The coordinator supervises, mentors, and builds the capacity of field staff and partner teams.
The role promotes gender-sensitive, protection-focused, and community-engagement approaches across all interventions.
The coordinator represents the organization in program-area and field-level coordination forums, strengthening partnerships and collaboration.
This role plays a crucial part in improving living conditions, public health outcomes, and resilience among displaced and vulnerable communities.

Educational Qualification
Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Hydraulics, Water Engineering, Civil or Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Humanitarian Studies, or a related field.
Additional certifications in project management or humanitarian standards are considered advantageous.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in WASH, Shelter, and NFI program coordination within humanitarian, recovery, or camp-based settings.
Experience in project start-up, field-level implementation, emergency response, rapid assessments, and multi-sector coordination is required.
Proven experience in record-keeping, donor reporting, and overall project management.
Demonstrated ability in team leadership, staff supervision, and capacity building.
Strong understanding and practical application of Sphere standards in emergency and development contexts.
Experience with ERP or logistics management systems such as SAP, Kobo, or ODK is an asset.
Familiarity with technical tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, Google Maps, or EPANET is advantageous.
