Job Description

WFP Ethiopia is hiring a Business Support Assistant (Logistics, GPS – Transport) to support the Supply Chain and Transport Unit in Addis Ababa. This role plays a vital part in strengthening transport monitoring systems and ensuring food shipments reach intended beneficiaries.

In 2023, WFP Ethiopia launched an Assurance Project to reinforce operational controls. As part of this project, the organization introduced a unified GPS tracking platform called Fleet Finder to monitor both commercial and WFP fleet trucks.

The Business Support Assistant will help integrate GPS tracking data into Fleet Finder and ensure the system is fully utilized across WFP offices. The role contributes directly to improving operational transparency and supply chain visibility.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Head of Operations – Downstream, the selected candidate will support transport monitoring activities and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure efficient tracking and reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing transporter truck lists and cross-checking them with the master GPS installation list using Microsoft Excel.
  • Following up with GPS service providers via email and phone to ensure new trucks are integrated into Fleet Finder.
  • Supporting full utilization of Fleet Finder across WFP Country Office and Sub-Offices.
  • Monitoring incidents in the Fleet Finder platform and ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.
  • Liaising with Country Office, Sub-Offices, and Headquarters focal points to ensure effective GPS data integration and reporting.
  • Verifying dashboard data accuracy and establishing clear parameters for identifying irregularities.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in digital transport monitoring and supply chain management within an international humanitarian organization. It provides valuable exposure to logistics systems, data analysis, and cross-functional coordination.

Educational Qualification

Completion of secondary school education is required.

A post-secondary certificate in logistics, supply chain management, transport management, information systems, or a related field is desirable.

Professional training related to GPS tracking systems, digital monitoring platforms, or supply chain operations will be considered an advantage.

Work Experience

A minimum of four years of relevant work experience in supply chain operations, transport management, or GPS-based tracking systems is required.

Experience working with transport visibility systems and digital tracking platforms is highly desirable.

Previous experience supporting large-scale logistics operations, preferably within humanitarian or development organizations, will be an added advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Familiarity with GPS tracking systems and digital transport monitoring platforms such as Fleet Finder.
  • Strong understanding of commodity tracking and transport control systems.
  • Ability to monitor incidents and ensure timely follow-up and resolution.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage data accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic (both oral and written).

The ideal candidate should demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

This role offers strong professional growth opportunities in supply chain digitalization and logistics management. It allows the successful candidate to develop expertise in transport monitoring technologies while contributing to life-saving humanitarian operations.
