About the Job:
Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Human Rights Officer, Monitoring and Investigation. The officer will handle human rights complaints, monitor places of detention and emergencies, prepare reports, and lead advocacy and follow-up efforts to promote accountability and justice.
Purpose of the Job:
To manage individual human rights complaints, conduct monitoring of detention facilities and emergency situations, prepare detailed reports, and develop advocacy strategies to support the protection and promotion of human rights.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage investigation of human rights complaints assigned by the supervisor.
• Participate in decision-making processes with coordinators and senior officers.
• Conduct monitoring of detention centers and prepare detailed reports.
• Monitor human rights conditions during emergencies and conflicts.
• Issue recommendations and design advocacy and follow-up strategies.
• Identify systemic human rights issues for further investigation and refer them to relevant thematic teams.
• Maintain and manage partnerships with key stakeholders and organizations.
• Conduct research on human rights topics and contribute to knowledge building.
• Provide input on revising systems, policies, manuals, and guidelines.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
• LLM or LLB Degree in Law, Human Rights Law, or International Law.
• Minimum of 4 years relevant experience for LLB holders and 2 years for LLM holders.
• Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and related tools.
• Fluency in Amharic required; knowledge of other local languages is an asset.
