About the Organization

Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is a prominent national Non-Governmental Organization in Ethiopia, legally registered under the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019. Since its inception, MCMDO has been dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable populations through a multisectoral approach that addresses health, nutrition, education, and protection. With a vast operational footprint across all regions and city administrations in Ethiopia, MCMDO is a key player in both long-term development and rapid emergency response.

Our mission is to empower mothers and children by creating sustainable environments where they can thrive despite the challenges of displacement, climate change, or conflict. We operate with a deep commitment to humanitarian principles, ensuring that our interventions are inclusive, neutral, and effective. As an organization, we pride ourselves on our ability to reach the most remote areas of the country, providing life-saving services where they are needed most.

The MCMDO culture is built on a foundation of accountability, transparency, and a survivor-centered approach. We place a high priority on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP). Our teams work tirelessly to ensure that every project not only meets technical standards but also respects the dignity and rights of the communities we serve.

We recognize that our strength lies in our people. MCMDO fosters a professional environment that encourages innovation and field-based leadership. By joining our team, you become part of a network of dedicated professionals who are making a real difference in the lives of thousands of IDPs and drought-affected individuals in the Afar Region and beyond.

MCMDO is an equal opportunity employer that actively promotes gender, equity, and diversity in the workplace. We strongly encourage qualified female candidates to apply for this leadership role. We believe that diverse leadership is essential for delivering sensitive and effective protection services to women and children.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Field-Based Project Coordinator is a high-level technical and operational lead for our vital project: “Reinforcing Protection and GBV Response Service for People Affected by Displacement and Drought in Afar Zone, Yalo Woreda.” This role is critical for ensuring that high-quality protection services reach over 12,000 beneficiaries who have been severely affected by the combined shocks of displacement and environmental crisis.

In this position, you will provide comprehensive oversight of lifesaving interventions across targeted kebeles. Your leadership ensures that the four project pillars—Case Management, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Cash for Protection, and the distribution of Dignity Kits—are implemented with the highest standards of quality and efficiency. You are the link between strategic project goals and the actual delivery of services at the field level.

The strategic impact of this role is immense. By institutionalizing PSEA and AAP at the kebele level, you safeguard the most vulnerable members of the community from further harm. Your presence in the field allows for real-time monitoring of service quality at Women and Girls Friendly Spaces (WGFS), ensuring that survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) receive the care and confidentiality they deserve.

This role offers significant professional growth, particularly for those looking to specialize in humanitarian coordination and cluster systems. You will represent MCMDO in Zonal and Woreda Protection Clusters, building relationships with the Office of Women and Social Affairs and local health authorities. This exposure provides a deep dive into the complexities of humanitarian financing, specifically working with the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF/CBPF).

Ultimately, the Project Coordinator is a champion for the “Do No Harm” principle. Your work ensures that aid is delivered transparently and securely, particularly through innovative mechanisms like “Cash for Protection.” This is a career-defining opportunity to lead a dedicated team in a challenging environment, leaving a lasting legacy of safety and resilience in the Afar Region.
