Job Description
The ICT Support Intern will assist in network maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting activities within UNECA’s ICT environment.
The role focuses on supporting LAN and WLAN infrastructure improvements and ensuring reliable network performance.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Chief of ICTSS and the Network and Communications Team Leader.
Responsibilities will vary depending on the intern’s background and assigned projects.
Key duties include:
- Supporting installation, configuration, and testing of wireless access points and LAN equipment
- Assisting in upgrading existing network infrastructure to improve coverage, speed, and reliability
- Conducting site surveys and analyzing signal strength for WLAN performance validation
- Documenting configurations, device placements, and testing results
The intern will also contribute to troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Assisting in diagnosing and resolving connectivity issues and configuration errors
- Supporting monitoring of network performance using diagnostic tools
- Helping identify bandwidth issues and system inefficiencies
- Assisting in maintaining firewall rules and configurations
- Documenting security risks, incidents, and responses
- Supporting routine maintenance such as firmware and software updates
The role also involves documentation and reporting responsibilities.
These include:
- Maintaining network topology diagrams and device inventories
- Assisting in preparing technical documentation and user guides
- Supporting compliance reviews and security policy assessments
- Participating in team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions

Educational Qualification
Candidates should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program in:
