Background:
The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) assists developing countries, particularly least developed countries, in developing their economies by providing grants, loans, and guarantees. UNCDF focuses on mobilizing capital for SDG-impactful investments that drive sustainable economic growth and equitable prosperity.
In Ethiopia, UNCDF is implementing two strategic initiatives:
(i) FinWise Ethiopia: Last Mile Capital for Inclusive Growth, and
(ii) DONE: Supporting Financial Service Providers to Increase Financial Inclusion for MSMEs in Conflict-Affected Areas.
These projects aim to enhance financing, capacity, and technology access for MSMEs, with a focus on women-owned and women-led enterprises.
Position Purpose:
The Project Coordinator will manage the FinWise and DONE projects, ensuring effective implementation, alignment with strategic goals, and achievement of results. The role includes oversight of project planning, budgeting, and monitoring, managing personnel, building partnerships, supporting resource mobilization, and contributing to knowledge management and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead project implementation, performance tracking, and reporting.
• Provide strategic oversight for planning, budgeting, and monitoring activities.
• Build partnerships with government, financial institutions, and development partners.
• Support resource mobilization and donor engagement.
• Supervise and manage a team of eight staff.
• Oversee result measurement, reporting, and knowledge sharing.
• Ensure alignment with UNCDF/UNDP regulations and donor requirements.

Required Skills:
• Strong project and portfolio management skills.
• Experience in access to finance, digital innovation, and MSME development.
• Proven leadership and team management experience.
• Understanding of Ethiopia’s financial ecosystem and government institutions.
• Experience in donor coordination and resource mobilization.
Educational Requirements:
• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Development Studies, Management, or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with two additional years of experience may be considered.
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 7 years (Master’s) or 9 years (Bachelor’s) in project design, coordination, and implementation.
• At least 5 years of experience focused on access to finance and digital financial services in Ethiopia.
• Experience with donor-funded programs and international organizations preferred.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in English and Amharic.
