Our mission is built on the unwavering belief that healthcare is a fundamental human right. We operate with a vision of a world where barriers to health—whether they be political, financial, or social—are dismantled to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive the care they deserve.
In Ethiopia and over 40 other countries, MdM delivers vital medical aid in crisis zones, conflict-affected areas, and regions grappling with extreme poverty. Our impact is driven by a global network of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and specialized support staff, who work tirelessly to bridge the gap between medical need and healthcare access. We don’t just provide treatment; we bear witness to the obstacles our patients face and advocate for long-term systemic change.
Our organizational culture is rooted in the principles of social justice, empowerment, and independence. We pride ourselves on being a diverse and inclusive workplace where different perspectives are valued as a source of strength. By joining MdM, you become part of a legacy of activism and humanitarian excellence that seeks to restore dignity to individuals and communities through high-quality medical programs and compassionate care.
Professional growth at MdM is a continuous journey. We invest in our people by providing opportunities for field-based learning, technical specialization, and leadership development within the humanitarian sector. As we navigate complex global health challenges, we encourage our staff to innovate and lead initiatives that improve the efficiency and reach of our life-saving interventions.
At Médecins du Monde, we are committed to building a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve. We believe that a variety of backgrounds and experiences is essential to achieving our mission of healthcare for all, and we provide an environment where all employees can thrive regardless of their identity.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The MEAL Officer holds a position of strategic importance within the Ethiopia mission, serving as the technical backbone for program quality and evidence-based decision-making. In a complex humanitarian landscape, the ability to monitor progress, evaluate impact, and remain accountable to both donors and affected populations is what transforms a good program into an exceptional one. This role ensures that every medical intervention is tracked with precision and that the voices of our beneficiaries are heard and integrated into our operations.
On a day-to-day basis, the MEAL Officer provides technical leadership by designing and maintaining robust frameworks that measure the effectiveness of our health, nutrition, and protection programs. By managing sophisticated data systems and digital collection tools, the officer enables the country coordination team to visualize trends and adapt strategies in real-time. This ensures that MdM’s resources are utilized where they are needed most, maximizing the impact of every euro and every hour of medical service.
This role offers significant career development opportunities for professionals looking to master the complexities of humanitarian data management and strategic oversight. You will be at the center of organizational learning, documenting best practices and lessons learned that will influence MdM’s global operations. The exposure to high-level coordination and donor relations provides a platform for the MEAL Officer to transition into senior management or specialized technical advisory roles in the future.
The strategic impact of this position extends beyond internal reporting; it is about building trust. By strengthening our Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP), the MEAL Officer ensures that our programs are transparent and responsive to the needs of the community. This builds the local legitimacy required to operate in sensitive areas and ensures that MdM remains a preferred partner for international donors and local stakeholders alike.
Ultimately, as the MEAL Officer, you are the guardian of program integrity. Your work ensures that MdM stays true to its mission of providing high-quality care. By analyzing data through lenses of gender, disability, and protection, you help ensure that no one is left behind. Your insights will directly shape the Country Strategic Plan, making you a vital contributor to the long-term success of MdM’s humanitarian efforts in Ethiopia.
