About the Organization
The Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) stands as a cornerstone of the nation’s infrastructure, dedicated to providing reliable and sustainable electricity to millions across Ethiopia. As a premier state-owned enterprise, its mission goes far beyond simple power distribution; it is an engine for economic growth, industrial advancement, and social equity. By bridging the gap between energy production and the final consumer, the EEU ensures that homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses have the vital energy required to flourish in a modern era.
The utility operates with a long-term vision of becoming a world-class power utility by 2030. This ambitious goal is underpinned by core values of excellence, transparency, and accountability. Every project undertaken by the EEU is designed with the community in mind, aiming to improve the quality of life for all citizens while supporting the country’s transition toward a green and resilient economy through efficient energy management.
At the heart of the Ethiopian Electric Utility is a commitment to its human capital. The organization recognizes that its technical and operational achievements are made possible only through the dedication of a diverse and skilled workforce. The utility invests heavily in modernizing its systems, integrating smart grid technologies, and maintaining a vast network of infrastructure that spans the diverse geography of Ethiopia, from bustling urban centers to remote rural villages.
A key priority for the EEU is the cultivation of an inclusive workplace that reflects the diversity of the people it serves. The organization understands that diverse perspectives lead to better problem-solving and innovation. By fostering an environment where every employee feels valued and respected, the utility maintains its status as an employer of choice in the public sector, offering stable and rewarding career paths for those committed to national service.
In alignment with our commitment to social progress, we explicitly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these vacancies. We are dedicated to increasing gender representation across all levels of the utility, particularly in technical and field-based roles. We believe that empowering women in the energy sector is essential for the holistic development of our organization and the nation at large.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The role of a Driver (I) within the Ethiopian Electric Utility is a position of critical strategic importance. In an organization where field operations and logistics are central to service delivery, drivers are the vital link that ensures technical teams, equipment, and resources reach their destinations safely and on time. Without a robust and professional transport division, the utility’s ability to respond to power outages or maintain electrical infrastructure would be severely compromised.
Beyond the mechanical task of operating a vehicle, this role carries a significant responsibility for public safety and organizational reputation. Our drivers are often the most visible representatives of the EEU in the community. Their professionalism on the road and their efficiency in supporting technical crews directly impact how the public perceives the utility’s service and commitment to reliability.
Choosing a career at the EEU means entering a workspace that offers significant professional growth. The organization provides a stable environment where employees can refine their skills through experience and internal training programs. For a Driver (I), this includes mastering the logistics of a large-scale utility provider and understanding the safety protocols required when working near high-voltage electrical environments.
The day-to-day impact of this role is tangible. Whether it is transporting a maintenance crew to restore power to a neighborhood or delivering essential supplies to a remote substation, your work ensures that the lights stay on for our customers. This sense of purpose makes the role more than just a job; it is a contribution to the national well-being and a foundational part of the utility’s operational success.
As the EEU continues to expand its reach and modernize its fleet, the demand for disciplined and skilled transport professionals remains high. Employees who demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic will find opportunities to advance within the logistics and transport departments. We view our staff as long-term partners in our journey toward energy excellence, and we are committed to supporting their journey every step of the way.
