Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization responsible for managing national parks across Africa in partnership with governments and local communities. The organization currently manages 23 national parks and protected areas in 13 countries, covering over 20 million hectares.
Gambella National Park, established in 1973, spans 4,575 km² and hosts diverse wildlife species, including Nile Lechwe, elephants, lions, giraffes, and shoebills. It also supports the white-eared kob migration — the largest land mammal migration on earth.
Job Overview
The Conservation Field Assistant supports the Conservation Department of Gambella National Park in field activities such as camera trap deployment, wildlife collar maintenance, conflict mitigation, and ecological monitoring. The position requires a willingness to live and work in remote areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and implement ecological data collection and analysis.
- Collaborate with other departments on data collection (Law Enforcement, Community Teams).
- Assist with land use planning and surveys in the Tedo area.
- Participate in community education and awareness programs.
- Monitor key species and protect wildlife.
- Support student interns and researchers.
- Ensure the security of staff and assets.

- Improved ecological understanding and education within communities.
- Safe operations with minimal accidents.
Job Requirements
- Education: BSc in ecology, park management, wildlife conservation, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in conservation, ecology, or wildlife management.
- Experience working in protected areas or national parks.
- Fluency in English; local languages are an asset.
- Strong adaptability, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- Experience with camera traps, GPS, and conservation technology.
- Must be physically fit and able to work in the field for extended periods.
- Age between 20 and 40 years.
- Ethiopian nationality (regional applicants are preferred).
