About the Organization
Concern Worldwide is a leading international humanitarian organization dedicated to the elimination of extreme poverty. Since its inception, Concern has worked tirelessly in some of the world’s least developed countries, responding to emergencies and implementing long-term development programs. In Ethiopia, Concern has a long-standing history of partnering with local communities and government structures to provide lifesaving interventions in nutrition, health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and livelihoods. Our mission is to transform the lives of the most vulnerable people, ensuring they have the resources and autonomy to live with dignity and resilience.
The organization’s vision is a world where no one lives in fear of hunger, or exploitation, and where everyone can fulfill their basic needs and rights. To achieve this, Concern integrates modern humanitarian standards with deep local expertise, navigating complex environments to deliver high-quality, accountable aid. Our core values—integrity, professionalism, and equality—drive every aspect of our work, ensuring that our interventions are effective, ethical, and community-centered. We take our responsibility toward program participants seriously, adhering to a strict Code of Conduct and safeguarding policies.
At Concern Worldwide Ethiopia, the internal culture is one of collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence. We understand that our impact is driven by the dedication of our staff, and we foster an environment where technical expertise is nurtured and proactive problem-solving is celebrated. Working with Concern means joining a multi-sectoral team that values evidence-based practice and digital health innovation, such as the use of DHIS2 and PIMS for routine data management. We provide a platform for professionals to lead high-stakes interventions that save lives and strengthen local health systems.
We are a firm believer in diversity, equity, and inclusion, recognizing that a diverse workforce is essential for an effective humanitarian response. Concern is committed to providing equal opportunities and actively promotes a workplace free from discrimination. We value the unique perspectives of all individuals and aim to reflect the vibrant and diverse communities we serve through our hiring practices. We believe that empowering our staff is the first step toward empowering the communities we support.
In alignment with our commitment to progressive workplace practices, Concern Worldwide explicitly encourages women and individuals with disabilities to apply for these health and nutrition roles. We recognize the invaluable contributions of women in the humanitarian sector and are dedicated to supporting their professional growth. By building an inclusive team, we enhance our creative capacity and ensure that our programs are sensitive to the needs of all community members, particularly the most vulnerable.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Health and Nutrition Officer and Support Officer roles are the strategic anchors of Concern’s emergency and recovery programs in Northern Ethiopia. These positions are responsible for the daily implementation and supervision of integrated health services, ranging from primary healthcare and sexual reproductive health (SRH) to lifesaving nutrition interventions like IMAM/CMAM and IYCF-E. In a region recovering from complex challenges, these roles ensure that essential health services are not only restored but strengthened to be resilient against future shocks.
The Health and Nutrition Officers (HNOs) lead the technical delivery, overseeing the day-to-day coordination with consortium partners and government health structures. Their impact is felt in the quality of clinical care provided at health facilities and the effectiveness of outbreak preparedness and response. They provide the necessary mentorship to local health workers and ensure that medical commodities reach the “last mile.” For an HNO, the “day-in-the-life” involves balancing technical supervision with strategic coordination across sectors like WASH and Protection to ensure a holistic response.
The Health and Nutrition Support Officers (HNSOs) focus heavily on community-level facilitation and technical support at the facility level. They are instrumental in community mobilization, active case finding, and the strengthening of referral pathways between community structures and stabilization centers. Their impact is immediate and visible—through accurate anthropometric screening and cooking demonstrations, they ensure that malnourished children and mothers receive the timely care they need. They bridge the gap between clinical services and the community, ensuring maximum program coverage and impact.
Career development at Concern is a continuous journey. Whether you are starting as a Support Officer or leading as an HNO, the organization provides the tools and mentorship to transition from a technical specialist to a humanitarian leader. Our staff gain unparalleled experience in managing complex budgets, leading multi-sectoral assessments, and navigating insecure environments. We ensure that your personal career trajectory aligns with our mission of professional excellence and impactful service delivery.
Ultimately, every individual hired in this recruitment cycle will play a vital role in the recovery and resilience of the Oromia and Tigray regions. Whether you are strengthening digital reporting systems, conducting life-saving screenings, or managing cold chain logistics, your work will have a tangible impact on the survival and health of thousands. We are looking for dedicated professionals fluent in Tigrigna who are ready to take ownership of their roles and contribute to a legacy of humanitarian excellence and industrial leadership.
