Purpose of Job
The African Union is a Pan-African body established to drive Africa’s integration and development. Its headquarters is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The AU invites qualified citizens of Member States to apply for the position of Administrative Assistant at the ACERWC Secretariat based in Maseru, Lesotho.
The Administrative Assistant provides administrative, clerical, and office support to ensure smooth functioning of the ACERWC.
Main Functions
- Provide timely operational and administrative support
- Assist in activity planning
- Prepare operational schedules and follow up on implementation
- Coordinate technical and logistical tasks
- Support creation and improvement of operational systems
- Draft reports and office communication
- Handle operational-level communication and updates
- Assist in compiling information for budgets and activities
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support across ACERWC units
- Organize meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences
- Arrange travel for ACERWC missions and activities
- Assist in preparing documents and reports
- Support procurement processes and follow-ups
- Liaise with partner agencies on administrative and financial matters
- Draft and finalize correspondence
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence and filing systems
- Handle priority correspondence and deadlines
- Draft memos and letters
- Maintain calendars and travel plans
- Maintain contact lists
- Perform other related tasks
Academic Requirements and Experience
- Diploma in Secretarial Science, Administration, Office Management, or similar fields with at least 3 years of experience
OR - Bachelor’s degree in similar fields with at least 2 years of experience
- Higher qualifications are an advantage
- Experience in human rights or child rights organizations is an added advantage
- Familiarity with ACERWC and AU work is beneficial
- Experience in diplomatic or international development institutions

Tenure of Appointment
Regular contract of three years, with the first 12 months as probation. Renewable based on performance.

Remuneration
- Basic salary: USD 15,758 (GSA5 Step 1) per year
- Post adjustment: 57% of basic salary
- Housing allowance: USD 16,813.44 per year
- Education allowance: Up to USD 10,000 per child (internationally recruited)
