About the Role
The Office of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Sudan (OPESG-Sudan) leads political engagement with Sudanese, regional, and international stakeholders to advance efforts to end the Sudan conflict and relaunch a credible peace process. The Political Affairs Officer will support these initiatives, based in Addis Ababa, reporting to the Principal Political Affairs Officer (Head of Office).
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and report on political developments in Sudan and the region.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant political and security issues.
- Provide political advice to the mission and other UN entities.
- Draft briefing notes, speeches, and background papers for senior leadership.
- Engage with UN agencies, governments, and partners on coordination and policy matters.
- Support mediation, peacebuilding, and fact-finding missions.
- Use data analysis and visualization to support decision-making and reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Economics, Public Administration, or related field.
A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted.
Training in data analytics or related areas is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in political science, peace operations, or conflict resolution.
- At least 2 years of field experience in a UN or international organization.
- Experience in Africa and in conflict or post-conflict contexts is required.
- Experience in political outreach, analysis, facilitation, and mediation support required.
- Experience related to Sudan and in data analytics is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English required; French is desirable.
