WASH in Fragile Place Based Initiative (PBI) Officer supports the design, implementation, and monitoring of WASH interventions in fragile and conflict-affected settings. The role ensures high-quality, context-sensitive programming that promotes sustainability, community resilience, and alignment with humanitarian and donor standards.
The officer leads the planning of WASH activities, including safe water access, sanitation facility development, and hygiene promotion. The position ensures all interventions meet Sphere Standards, Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), donor requirements, and national guidelines. The role integrates gender, safeguarding, conflict sensitivity, and protection principles throughout the project.
The position strengthens coordination with government offices, partners, and community stakeholders. It involves maintaining updated work plans, monitoring progress, managing reporting, and ensuring proper use of digital tools such as mWater. The officer also identifies operational risks related to security, access, and community acceptance.
Capacity building is central to the role. The officer organizes WASH training, supports construction supervision processes, and provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to team members and partners. The position contributes to enhancing local ownership and sustaining WASH systems in fragile contexts.
Education
M.Sc./B.Sc. in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, or related fields.
Technical training in WASH, Humanitarian Affairs, or Conflict Studies.
Experience
7 years of experience for B.Sc. holders or 5 years for M.Sc. holders.
Minimum 1 year experience in fragile or conflict-affected contexts.
Skills
Strong communication, facilitation, and teamwork abilities.
Experience in WASH project implementation, construction supervision, and contract administration.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
Work Environment
Frequent travel to remote and fragile areas is required.
