About the Organization
People In Need (PIN) is a distinguished non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the core values of humanism, freedom, equality, and solidarity. Established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents and journalists, PIN has grown from a grassroots initiative into one of the largest and most respected professional humanitarian organizations in Central and Eastern Europe. For over three decades, the organization has remained steadfast in its mission to provide aid in troubled regions and support the global adherence to human rights, believing that every individual has the right to make decisions about their own life.
In Ethiopia, People In Need has been an active force for change since 2003, operating across five key regions: Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Sidama, and Tigray. The organization implements a diverse range of multi-sectoral projects focusing on Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water, and Social Protection. As a member of Alliance 2015, a strategic network of European NGOs, PIN leverages international partnerships to increase the effectiveness of its development and emergency response interventions.
The culture at People In Need is defined by a commitment to humanity and a friendly, fair work environment. We pride ourselves on maintaining a small, collective atmosphere where team spirit is nurtured and every member knows each other. PIN values the welfare of its staff as much as the communities it serves, offering extensive capacity-building programs, internal mobility, and an international environment that fosters continuous learning from other global country programs.
People In Need is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and gender equality. We believe that a variety of backgrounds and perspectives enriches our work and enhances our impact on the ground. To this end, women and individuals from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply for our open positions, as we strive to build a workforce that reflects the diverse populations we support.
Joining PIN means more than just taking a job; it is an opportunity to be part of a professional humanitarian legacy. We provide our employees with the tools, training, and mentorship necessary to reach their career goals while making a historic contribution to Ethiopia’s development. Our staff members are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and behavior, serving as ambassadors for the values of human dignity and social justice.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Field Assistant is a crucial role within the specialized project "To meet immediate basic need through multi-purpose cash assistance in Ethiopia, phase 2." This position is at the heart of our community-based humanitarian response, focusing on the direct implementation of multi-purpose cash assistance (MPCA) for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. As a Field Assistant, you act as the primary link between PIN’s strategic objectives and the daily realities of the people we serve.
The strategic impact of this role is profound, as it directly influences the effectiveness of immediate relief efforts. By collaborating on needs assessments, procurement inspections, and beneficiary identification, the Field Assistant ensures that aid reaches the right people at the right time. Your work in documenting best practices and success stories provides the evidence base required to refine our interventions and demonstrate accountability to our donors and the public.
For the successful candidate, this position offers a "day-in-the-life" experience characterized by meaningful community engagement and technical growth. You will be responsible for planning and executing field activities, facilitating awareness-raising meetings, and ensuring that all project documentation—from distribution lists to bylaws—is meticulously maintained. This role provides an excellent platform for those looking to build a career in development and project management, offering hands-on experience in one of PIN's most impactful sectors.
In addition to technical implementation, the Field Assistant plays a vital role in safeguarding and protection. You will be responsible for implementing measures to prevent sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH), ensuring that our projects create a fulfilling and protective environment for all participants. Your ability to maintain smooth and professional relations with stakeholders at the kebele, zonal, and woreda levels is essential for the long-term sustainability of our programs.
Ultimately, the Field Assistant contributes to the broader mission of humanism and solidarity. By ensuring the proper quality and timely delivery of cash assistance, you help families meet their basic needs and regain a sense of dignity during times of crisis. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional who is culturally sensitive and thrives in stressful, high-pressure environments where deadlines and quality standards are paramount.
