About the Organization
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent, global humanitarian organization that has been assisting people forced to flee since 1946. Working in approximately 31 countries with a dedicated workforce of 14,000 staff, NRC is recognized for providing high-quality aid and defending the rights of refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) in some of the world’s most difficult and dangerous crises. NRC employs a rights-based approach, challenging duty-bearers to uphold national and international laws while adhering to the core principles of humanity, neutrality, independence, and impartiality.
At NRC, the culture is built on giving responsibility to employees at all levels, fostering innovative teams, and maintaining an open dialogue with management. The organization is deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that all staff contribute to a safe and respectful environment. Safeguarding is at the heart of NRC’s mission; the organization maintains a zero-tolerance approach to sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH), emphasizing that every staff member has a duty to report concerns.
NRC Ethiopia operates in a complex political and humanitarian landscape, providing life-saving assistance to those affected by conflict and displacement. By joining NRC, you become part of a team that saves lives and rebuilds futures, even in hard-to-reach or remote-managed areas. The organization values professional growth and provides a supportive atmosphere for those dedicated to humanitarian excellence and accountability to affected populations.
NRC strongly encourages women and underrepresented groups to apply for this leadership role. We believe that a diverse team is essential for building trust within the communities we serve and for ensuring that our feedback mechanisms are inclusive and accessible to all. We are committed to a fair recruitment process that prioritizes competency, integrity, and a passion for community engagement.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Roving Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) Coordinator holds a vital strategic position within NRC Ethiopia, serving as the country-level focal point for accountability. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of systems that allow project participants to voice their concerns safely and confidentially. By ensuring that feedback is systematically collected and analyzed, you directly influence the quality, safety, and relevance of NRC’s humanitarian programming.
Your "day-in-the-life" impact involves a balance of high-level data oversight and hands-on field support. As a roving coordinator, you will travel regularly to Area Offices (AOs) to mentor staff and ensure that feedback channels—such as hotlines, suggestion boxes, and helpdesks—are functional and context-appropriate. You are the guardian of the "Do No Harm" principle, ensuring that sensitive feedback regarding safeguarding or misconduct is escalated within 24 hours to protect the most vulnerable.
Strategically, this role bridges the gap between community voices and organizational decision-making. You will oversee the CFM database, producing monthly reports and dashboards that identify trends and risks. By presenting this data to program teams, you facilitate evidence-based adaptation, ensuring that NRC’s aid is not just delivered, but is responsive to the actual needs and preferences of the people in Ethiopia.
This position offers significant professional growth, allowing you to lead the rollout of SOPs across a large-scale national operation. You will strengthen the broader culture of Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) within the organization, conducting training and capacity-building for both NRC staff and local partners. This role is ideal for a decisive yet empathetic professional looking to make a systemic impact on how humanitarian aid is governed.
Ultimately, the CFM Coordinator ensures that the communities NRC serves have a seat at the table. By closing the feedback loop and ensuring that concerns are addressed in a timely manner, you build the trust and transparency necessary for sustainable humanitarian impact. Your leadership ensures that NRC Ethiopia remains a highly accountable, community-centric organization that treats every individual with dignity and respect.
