Job Description:
The Telecommunications Specialist in Regional Technical Operations will oversee the technical and operational management of regional network clusters. This role is critical in ensuring high-quality network services, effective deployment of resources, and seamless collaboration across multiple teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing day-to-day regional operations to ensure field service providers deliver exceptional network performance to customers.
- Executing cost-effective preventative and corrective maintenance plans for both active network elements (RAN, MW, IP, DWDM, OSP/ISP Fibre) and passive energy systems (solar, diesel generators, rectifiers, batteries).
- Overseeing energy management, site security, fuel refueling, and maintenance operations across network sites and data centers.
- Developing and implementing Network Improvement Plans (NIP) to enhance radio network availability, transmission capacity, revenue reliability, and overall customer experience.
- Promoting operational efficiency, minimizing waste, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement throughout field operations.
- Providing IT support for SnD platforms, eKYC systems, Citap, UBP, and overall IT estate support for regional offices, Security teams, and other departments.
- Coordinating with departments such as Regional Planning, Project Management, Installation, Maintenance, and external contractors to ensure smooth operations.
- Managing vendor and third-party relationships, ensuring SLA compliance, and enforcing service credits when necessary.
- Supervising site acquisition processes, lease management, and lease renewal negotiations for optimal operational efficiency.
- Leading cross-functional alignment with Sales and Distribution, Radio Network Planning & Operations, Transmission Network Planning & Operations, and Capex PMO for new site deployment and rollout initiatives.
- Reviewing regional network planning and deployment strategies, ensuring technical feasibility and commercial viability.
- Supporting radio and transmission network capacity expansion projects to meet customer demand and optimize coverage.
- Leading regional network launch and re-launch programs, ensuring readiness for commercial operations.
- Driving network quality and customer experience improvements through RAN optimization, periodic and ad hoc Drive Tests, and addressing complaints from SnD, Dealers, and end-users.
- Building strong relationships with key regional stakeholders, including Ethiotel, EEP, EEU, Trade Bureaus, and service station owners, to overcome external operational constraints.
Educational Qualification:
- A university degree in Engineering is preferred, with a focus on Telecommunication Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering considered an advantage.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of three years of experience in a similar technical or operational role within the telecommunications sector.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong technical expertise in network operations and maintenance.
- Extensive proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, vendors, and field teams effectively.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across cross-functional teams.
