Job Description
Save the Children International is seeking a qualified and responsible Mechanic/Driver to support its Supply Chain operations in Bale Field Office. The role involves providing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for staff, partners, and program materials.
The Driver will be responsible for transporting staff and supplies between project sites and operational locations while ensuring safety at all times. The position requires driving in difficult terrain and under varying weather conditions.
The successful candidate will ensure that vehicles are operated according to organizational policies and national traffic regulations. Careful driving practices are essential to minimize risks to passengers, vehicles, and equipment.
The Driver will perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections and maintain cleanliness and readiness of the assigned vehicle. This includes checking fuel levels, engine condition, tire pressure, and safety equipment.
The role also involves maintaining vehicle logbooks and recording all trips, fuel consumption, and related expenses accurately. These records are essential for reporting and operational monitoring.
The Driver will support the team by ensuring that passengers’ goods and project materials are properly loaded and unloaded during field trips.
In addition to transportation duties, the Driver will carry out minor mechanical maintenance such as tire replacement and basic repairs when necessary.
The position requires maintaining all required documents inside the vehicle, including registration papers, insurance documents, and inspection certificates.
The Driver will ensure the vehicle is parked safely and securely during both working and non-working hours.
Another key responsibility includes reporting accidents, damages, or technical issues immediately to supervisors.
The position may also involve liaison and logistical support with government offices, inspection centers, and other agencies when requested by supervisors.
Drivers are expected to maintain professionalism while interacting with staff, partners, and community members.
The role requires flexibility and readiness to work on weekends, holidays, or during emergency program activities when necessary.
Drivers will support field teams in reaching communities where programs are implemented and ensure timely transportation for operational needs.
The position reports directly to the Senior Supply Chain Officer and does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have completed Grade 10 or Grade 12 under the current education system.
Additional training in safety and security is highly desirable.
Training in defensive driving or 4WD driving techniques will be considered an advantage.
Basic computer knowledge is considered an added asset.
Work Experience
Applicants should have at least three years of driving experience in international NGOs or similar organizations.
Candidates must have a clean driving record and demonstrate responsible driving behavior.
Experience with vehicle maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting will be an advantage.
Experience in liaison and logistical support activities is also considered beneficial.
