Job Description
The Field Manager for Ethiopia North Afar will provide operational leadership and overall coordination of NRC’s field office activities.

This role ensures that all programs and support functions are managed in a secure, accountable, and efficient manner.

The Field Manager will oversee staff, budgets, logistics, security, and coordination with internal and external partners.

The position is key to ensuring high-quality service delivery to displaced and vulnerable communities in Afar.

You will act as the main representative of NRC at the field level, working with local authorities, community leaders, and humanitarian partners.

You will also ensure strong communication between the field office and the Area Office.

Key Responsibilities
You will manage and supervise directly reporting staff, including performance reviews, goal setting, and professional development.

You will lead recruitment, workforce planning, staff induction, and ensure duty of care for all team members.

You will provide field-specific analysis and contribute to area and country strategies.

You will coordinate and collaborate with external stakeholders, including government, NGOs, and community representatives.

You will represent NRC in field-level meetings as delegated by the Area Manager.

You will oversee field office budgets, procurement, asset management, and operational resources.

You will ensure that all activities follow NRC policies, procedures, and security standards.

You will support timely, high-quality implementation of all field-level programs.

Educational Qualification
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as management, social sciences, development studies, or related disciplines is required.

Work Experience
Significant experience working in complex humanitarian or emergency contexts is required.

Previous experience in North Afar or similar displacement-affected regions is highly desirable.

Experience working with multiple donors and managing large operational teams is essential.

Experience in consortium projects and advocacy work will be an added advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of the Afar humanitarian and displacement context.

Experience with ICLA, WASH, Shelter, Livelihoods and Food Security, and Education programs.

Understanding of the legal and judicial context of Ethiopia is highly desirable.

Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.

Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse communities.

Ability to operate effectively in politically complex and insecure environments.

Job Location
The duty station is Semera, Ethiopia, in the North Afar region.

Employment Type and Salary
This is a full-time position with a 12-month contract, renewable based on funding and performance.

The role includes approximately 20% travel to project sites.

Salary is based on NRC Ethiopia Grade 8 salary scale, with accompanying benefits and terms.

This position is open to Ethiopian nationals only.
