About UNOAU:
The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) strengthens cooperation between the UN and the African Union in peace and security. This position is based in the Field Technology Services (FTS) of the Administrative Support Section in Addis Ababa, reporting to the Chief of Unit FTS.

Responsibilities:

  • Radio Systems: Install, maintain, and program VHF, UHF, HF mobile/base stations, repeaters, and trunking systems. Train non-technical users.
  • Microwave Systems: Prepare, install, configure, and test digital microwave radio systems. Conduct radio-link calculations.
  • PABX/Switching Systems: Lead installation, operation, and maintenance of telephony systems including PABX, voicemail, encrypted devices, cordless phones, and automated billing systems.
  • Satellite Systems: Install and maintain C-band, X-band, and Ku-band satellite communication systems (up to 9 meters). Train users and coordinate with UN Headquarters.
  • Rigging & Infrastructure: Plan, construct, and maintain communications towers, antennas, cabling, and related infrastructure.
  • Video-Teleconferencing (VTC): Install, operate, and maintain VTC systems; liaise with UN Headquarters for applications.
  • Common Duties: Oversee UPS/power systems, procurement planning, inventory management (UMOJA ERP), technical training for staff, and preventive maintenance.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: High school or equivalent required.
  • Work Experience: Minimum 8 years in Telecommunications and Information Systems (3 years at international level). Experience in UN field operations or similar international organizations is required.
  • Skills: Knowledge in ERP systems (UMOJA), high-availability networking, data center management, CRM systems (e.g., INEED, FRIM), and Power BI analytics is desirable.
  • Languages: English (UN Level II required).
