About the Organization
Tree Aid is a pioneering international organization at the forefront of high-integrity, community-led forest carbon initiatives. Since its inception in 1987, Tree Aid has focused on the drylands of Africa, working to alleviate poverty and address the climate crisis through land restoration and sustainable livelihoods. The organization has achieved remarkable milestones, including the regeneration of over 32 million trees and support for more than 1.8 million people. Tree Aid recently made history as the first organization globally to register an ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation) project under Verra’s VM0047 methodology.
The organizational culture at Tree Aid is defined by technical innovation and a deep commitment to social equity. The team operates with transparency and openness, ensuring that every project is centered around the needs and participation of rural communities. Personnel work in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment where local wisdom is combined with cutting-edge environmental data science. This approach ensures that nature-based solutions (NbS) are not only technically sound but also socially just and sustainable.
Professional growth is a cornerstone of the Tree Aid experience. As the organization enters an ambitious new phase, staff are given the opportunity to lead ground-breaking projects and work directly with international climate finance mechanisms and carbon markets. Exposure to high-level portfolio management, international advocacy, and advanced MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) systems provides a robust pathway for career advancement in the rapidly evolving carbon sector.
Tree Aid is an inclusive employer that values diversity in all its forms. The organization ensures that no applicant receives less favorable treatment based on gender, disability, race, or any other protected status. By joining Tree Aid, you become part of a mission-driven team that balances technical leadership with a heart for international development, working to scale innovative solutions across six African countries.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Carbon and Geospatial Analyst is a high-impact, technical role designed to lead the data-driven implementation of Nature-Based Solutions. Reporting to the NbS & Carbon Manager, the Analyst is responsible for the technical integrity of carbon quantification and spatial analysis. This role is pivotal for moving projects through the full lifecycle—from initial design and Project Design Document (PDD) preparation to the rigorous verification required by global carbon standards.
The daily responsibilities involve utilizing Google Earth Engine (GEE) and Python to process complex geospatial datasets. The Analyst produces detailed maps and spatial analyses to monitor tree cover and land-use changes over time, ensuring that restoration efforts are accurately tracked. By collaborating closely with the M&E team, the Analyst quality-assures field data to support MRV processes, which are essential for maintaining the high-integrity status of Tree Aid’s carbon credits.
The strategic impact of this position cannot be overstated. By successfully applying Verra ARR methodologies like VM0047, the Analyst helps Tree Aid break new ground in community-centered carbon programming. This work directly influences how global investors and carbon markets perceive and value nature-based solutions in Africa. The Analyst acts as a bridge between complex environmental modeling and real-world impact, ensuring that technical data translates into strengthened livelihoods for dryland communities.
Career development in this role is exceptional, offering 18 months of intensive experience in a “global first” project environment. The Analyst will gain hands-on exposure to the latest ARR methodologies and participate in strategic thinking that shapes the organization’s expansion. The opportunity to work with international investors and contribute to high-integrity carbon standards places the incumbent at the center of the global climate finance discussion.
Ultimately, the Carbon and Geospatial Analyst ensures that Tree Aid remains a world leader in ecological restoration. Through precise modeling and motivated professional leadership, the Analyst safeguards the environmental benefits of millions of trees while supporting the resilience of the people who grow them.
