Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Multiple open positions

About the Organization

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a world-class provider of international cooperation services for sustainable development and international education. With operations in over 120 countries, GIZ works on behalf of the German Federal Government and other public and private sector clients to create a future worth living. In Ethiopia, GIZ has been a strategic partner for decades, supporting the nation’s ambitious Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda 2.0 (HGER 2.0). Our mission is to promote private sector-led economic transformation, achieve macroeconomic stabilization, and facilitate structural shifts that integrate Ethiopia into the global economy.

The “Private Sector Development in Ethiopia” (PSD-E) project, co-financed by the European Union and the Netherlands, is at the heart of our current efforts. This initiative specifically aims to strengthen the Ethiopian private sector, making local companies more competitive and resilient. We focus on transformative companies with high growth potential, technology-based start-ups, and MSMEs that serve as the backbone of the economy. By fostering innovation in sectors like the circular economy, digitalization, and agribusiness, GIZ is helping build a sustainable and inclusive economic landscape.

A core value of GIZ is our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We believe that sustainable development can only be achieved when all members of society have equal opportunities to participate in and benefit from economic growth. Our projects are designed to be inclusive, with a particular focus on enhancing the resilience and business performance of women-led MSMEs and communities in (post-)conflict regions. This dedication to social impact ensures that our technical work leads to meaningful improvements in people’s lives across Ethiopia.

Working with GIZ means joining a global community of experts dedicated to professional excellence and mutual respect. We foster a workplace culture that encourages innovation, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration. Our team members are empowered to take ownership of their work, contributing to high-impact projects that shape the future of international development. At GIZ, your professional journey is supported by a robust framework of technical resources and a collaborative spirit.

We explicitly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these positions. As an equal opportunity employer, GIZ is committed to providing a workspace free from discrimination, where talent and dedication are celebrated. We strive to maintain a diverse workforce that reflects the global nature of our work and the vibrant communities we serve in Ethiopia.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The suite of advisor roles—Marketing and Access to Market, Green and Circular Economy, and Digital Economy and ICT—serves as the technical engine for the PSD-E project. These positions are designed to move Ethiopian businesses from traditional production-led models to modern, market-driven, and sustainable enterprises. By providing high-level technical guidance, these advisors ensure that transformative companies can compete not just locally, but on regional and international stages, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The Office Manager role provides the essential operational backbone for the “Qualification and Employment Prospects” (QEP II) program. This position ensures that the day-in-the-life operations of our skills training and employment initiatives run smoothly, directly impacting the lives of refugees, IDPs, and host communities. By facilitating stakeholder engagement and managing project data, the Office Manager enables our technical teams to focus on creating pathways to employment for over a million displaced persons in Ethiopia.

These roles offer a unique opportunity for professional growth within a prestigious international organization. Advisors will manage complex contracts with international consultants, lead sector-wide initiatives, and influence national policy through their work with government agencies like the Ministry of Revenue and the National Bank of Ethiopia. The Office Manager position offers a perfect entry or mid-level path for those looking to build a career in international development operations, providing exposure to multi-stakeholder project environments.

The strategic impact of these roles is immense. The Green and Circular Economy Advisor will lead Ethiopia’s shift toward renewable energy and industrial recycling; the Digital Economy Advisor will spearhead the integration of AI and FinTech; and the Marketing Advisor will open doors to global trade. Together, these positions are building the competitiveness and sustainability of the Ethiopian private sector, ensuring long-term economic resilience and job creation at scale.

By joining GIZ, you become an architect of change. Your daily work—whether auditing a brand, designing a waste recovery system, or coordinating a training workshop—contributes to a larger narrative of national transformation. We offer a platform where your expertise can drive systemic impact, creating spillovers that benefit the entire market ecosystem and contribute to a more prosperous and stable Ethiopia.
