Save the Children Multiple open positions

About the Organization

Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organization for children, dedicated to ensuring every child has the chance to grow up healthy, educated, and safe. With a presence in over 120 countries, including a long-standing and impactful history in Ethiopia and across the Africa region, we work tirelessly to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Our mission is built on the belief that every child deserves a future, and we commit our resources to reaching the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.

In Ethiopia and globally, our programs span across health, nutrition, education, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and food security. We collaborate closely with government institutions, local partners, and international donors to implement high-quality, evidence-based interventions. Our work is particularly vital in humanitarian contexts where children face acute risks from conflict, displacement, and environmental crises. We pride ourselves on being a dual-mandate organization that excels in both emergency response and long-term development.

Our culture is rooted in a set of core values: accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity, and integrity. We provide a dynamic, multicultural environment where professionals can thrive and contribute to systemic changes. Working at Save the Children means joining a dedicated global team that values diversity and sees it as a source of competitive strength. We offer a platform where technical expertise meets passionate advocacy, ensuring that children’s rights are at the forefront of the global agenda.

We are deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We recognize that our impact is greatest when our team reflects the diverse communities we serve. We foster an inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued and empowered to contribute their best work. Our rigorous child safeguarding policies ensure that our staff and programs remain a safe haven for the children we protect.

We firmly believe in equal opportunities for all qualified candidates. We explicitly encourage women and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply for these critical roles. Your unique background, skills, and perspectives are essential to our success in navigating complex humanitarian and development landscapes in Africa.

Job Description and Strategic Impact

The WASH, Food System, and Strategic Analysis roles are central to Save the Children’s strategic goal of improving child survival and well-being. The WASH Coordinator and Officer lead life-saving water and sanitation interventions in Sekota, while the Sr. Food System Advisor drives national food transformation within the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture. The Humanitarian Strategic Analyst provides the high-level geopolitical intelligence required to navigate crises across the Africa region.

These roles carry immense strategic weight. While the WASH team reduces the incidence of waterborne diseases in Wag Himra, the Food System Advisor influences national policy for millions, and the Strategic Analyst ensures our responses are conflict-sensitive and anticipatory. These positions are not just about technical delivery; they are about building resilient systems and providing the foresight necessary to protect children in the world’s most complex operating environments.

A day in the life varies by role: for WASH experts, it involves technical supervision and community engagement; for the Sr. Advisor, it is mentoring Ministry leadership; and for the Strategic Analyst, it is synthesizing geopolitical trends into actionable insights for senior executives. These roles offer the chance to work at the cutting edge of the “Area-Based Approach” (ABA) and global humanitarian foresight strategies.

Career development at Save the Children is a journey toward global expertise. You will gain experience in managing complex, donor-funded projects (such as ECHO and the Gates Foundation) and build a professional network within the UN, government, and NGO clusters. We provide an environment that encourages taking disciplined risks and developing innovative solutions to some of the world’s most difficult humanitarian challenges.

By joining this team, you become a catalyst for change. Whether you are ensuring a child has clean drinking water or shaping the humanitarian advocacy strategy for an entire region, your work has a direct line to saving lives. We offer a unique professional trajectory where technical and analytical skills achieve high-level goals, resulting in practical, life-changing outcomes for children.
