Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Equity Finance Advisor and Debt Finance Advisor roles are at the heart of the “Private Sector Development in Ethiopia” (PSD-E) project. This initiative is a cornerstone of the German Government and European Union’s support for Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda 2.0. By joining this project, you will directly contribute to the structural transformation of the Ethiopian economy, helping it transition from state-led growth to a dynamic, private-sector-led landscape.
As an Equity Finance Advisor, your impact will be felt in the nascent but rapidly evolving capital markets of Ethiopia. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between high-growth companies and the capital they need to scale. Your work with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) and the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) will help build the very foundations of the country’s modern financial ecosystem, ensuring that startups and transformative firms have the equity tools necessary to thrive.
The Debt Finance Advisor will play an equally critical role by enhancing the capacity of financial institutions. Access to credit remains a significant hurdle for many MSMEs in Ethiopia. By working with banks, microfinance institutions, and the National Bank of Ethiopia, you will help design and pilot innovative debt products. Your expertise will ensure that local businesses can access the liquidity required to enhance their productivity and contribute to national economic resilience.
Career development at GIZ is a continuous journey. These roles offer the opportunity to work at the highest levels of economic policy and financial market development. You will engage with international consultants, government regulators, and private sector leaders, building a professional network that spans the globe. We provide a platform where your technical expertise can lead to systemic change, offering you the chance to leave a lasting legacy on Ethiopia’s economic history.
Beyond the immediate technical tasks, these positions are about mentorship and ecosystem building. You will be advising companies on investment readiness and creditworthiness, effectively coaching the next generation of Ethiopian business leaders. This hands-on impact, combined with the strategic nature of the work, provides a unique professional trajectory for those looking to excel in international development finance.
