About the Role:
FHI 360 is seeking a WASH Officer Engineer to support water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in Tigray, with potential travel to other regions. The role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing WASH facilities, providing technical guidance, and ensuring quality and compliance with international standards and Ministry of Health guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, quantify, and specify boreholes, water distribution systems, and sanitation facilities.
  • Prepare drawings (AutoCAD), BOQs, cost estimates, and tender documents for WASH infrastructures.
  • Conduct water quality testing, pump installation and repair, and maintain WASH facilities.
  • Train community handlers, volunteers, and water management committees on operation and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, local authorities, and partners to ensure smooth project implementation.
  • Oversee WASH construction, rehabilitation, and quality assurance in health facilities, IDP sites, and communities.
  • Lead assessments, including rapid needs assessments and KAP surveys, and prepare technical reports.
  • Integrate WASH interventions with health, nutrition, protection, and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Supervise field teams, contractors, and volunteers to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Participate in WASH coordination platforms, cluster meetings, and technical working groups.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • MSc or First Degree in Water Resources, Civil, Water Supply & Sanitation Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian WASH projects.
  • Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing community and IDP-based WASH programs.
  • Knowledge of global WASH strategies, Ethiopia WASH sector practices, and resilient WASH approaches.
  • Experience in supervising construction sites, evaluating bids, and managing procurement and payments.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills; fluency in English and local languages.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to operational sites in challenging environments.
