United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA Multiple Open Positions

About the Organization

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is one of the UN’s five regional commissions, established in 1958 with the mandate to promote the economic and social development of its member states. Our mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa, guided by the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063. We serve as a premier knowledge institution that brings global solutions to the continent’s problems and takes local solutions to the global stage.

We focus on five strategic directions: advancing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate job creation, designing innovative financing models for infrastructure, and contributing solutions to regional challenges such as peace and social inclusion. The African Centre for Statistics (ACS) within the ECA is specifically responsible for improving the production and use of quality data across the continent. By providing evidence-based policymaking tools, we help ensure that African development is informed by accurate and comparable statistical data.

Working at the United Nations means joining a global community of dedicated professionals committed to peace, human rights, and sustainable development. We pride ourselves on a culture of excellence, integrity, and professionalism, where every team member contributes to a larger mission of global governance and regional transformation. Our environment is one of mutual respect, where diverse perspectives are valued as a means to achieve innovative results.

Professional growth at the ECA is supported by a dynamic work environment that exposes staff to complex regional and transboundary challenges. We encourage our employees to keep abreast of available technology and to seek out new methodologies in their respective fields. Whether in administration or technical statistics, our staff are given the responsibility to lead initiatives that have a lasting impact on the lives of millions across Africa.

We are deeply committed to achieving a 50/50 gender balance and maintaining geographical diversity within our staff. The United Nations creates a diverse and inclusive environment of mutual respect, recruiting regardless of gender identity, race, or religious background. We believe that a representative workforce is essential for the effective delivery of our mandate and the legitimacy of our global operations.

The United Nations is an equal opportunity employer. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for these positions as we strive to close the gender gap in both administrative and technical categories. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace and provide reasonable accommodation for applicants with disabilities to support their participation in the recruitment process.
